Job Description

ROLE:

The Woods Hole Group, Inc., a CLS Group company, is a leader in commercial oceanographic, marine environmental and fisheries services. The company provides consultancy, measurement, monitoring, numerical modeling, and forecasting services to support offshore and coastal development, operations, and protection. We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Commercial Manager, ideally to be based in our headquarters in Bourne, MA or in our Richmond, TX office. The Commercial Manager role will be a key position in the Energy and Infrastructure business unit, reporting directly to the business unit manager. The primary focus of the role will be preparing proposals and responding to tenders across all aspects of the energy and infrastructure business unit, including: metocean measurements, metocean systems, metocean consultancy. These activities will involve working closely with the Energy and Infrastructure Team leaders and technical teams. There will be additional tasks supporting business development, marketing, and sales activities, based on the commercial workload.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

The Commercial Manager will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Responding to Client RFIs, RFQs tenders and proposal requests.
  • Reviewing Client RFIs, RFQs tenders and proposal requests for inaccuracies, ambiguities and concerns and drafting clarification requests.
  • Reviewing Client terms and conditions from a company risk perspective, to identify and mitigate potential concerns, as well as working with the CLS legal team.
  • Identifying suitable project suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, and partners, and obtaining technical and commercial information including quotations, specifications, and company information.
  • Working with the Energy and Infrastructure team members to develop efficient technical plans.
  • Obtain, collate, and package all required technical information into technical and commercial proposal documents and associated appendices.
  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities through direct client contacts, market research, trade shows, RFP search, and other channels.
  • Working with the QHSE Manager and Business Unit Manager to provide HSE and Quality Management information associated with RFIs, RFQs tenders and proposal requests.
  • Undertaking detailed job pricing using company spreadsheets, on a broad scope of potential projects, with values ranging from thousands to millions of dollars.
  • Preparation of high quality detailed technical and commercial proposals documents that meet specific Client requirements.
  • Managing the Energy and Infrastructure opportunity and proposal pipeline using the company CRM system.
  • Engagement with clients and vendors in support of opportunities and proposals from commercial management and business development perspectives.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education to degree level or above in Physical Oceanography, Ocean Engineering, Meteorology, or similar marine environmental or marine survey field will be considered along with relevant experience.
  • Previous project management, commercial management, or business development experience, ideally in the provision of metocean, offshore survey, or marine environmental services.
  • Work experience in the offshore wind energy or oil and gas industries is a plus.
  • Experience working as a vendor with online tendering/purchasing portals such as Ariba would be a benefit.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills are essential, particularly in writing and drafting technical and commercial proposals.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and to adhere to all deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint and ability to work in a Windows environment.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • The position is a full-time, salaried position, commensurate with experience.
  • This position will be filled either at our Bourne, MA, Corporate Headquarters or our Richmond, TX, office.
  • Applicant must be willing to adhere to the companies Drug and Alcohol testing program.
