JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: EMPLOYEE/LABOR RELATIONS SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES

STATUS: EXEMPT

LOCATION: NEW YORK CITY

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

SALARY: $65,000.00- $75,000.00

SUMMARY

The Employee/Labor Relations Specialist provides specialized, professional support for employee and labor relations activities. Facilitates the implementation of and compliance with organization policies and procedures, employment laws, and collective bargaining agreements, in collaboration with Human Resources Director, managers and employees. Investigates potential compliance violations and advises Westhab leadership on opportunities for remediation/prevention of workplace issues that impact morale, productivity and organizational performance. Supports activities related to negotiating, maintaining and ensuring adherence to the collective bargaining agreements. Supports the development and implementation of process improvements and automation to enhance compliance, transparency, and accuracy of personnel processes and information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Must be able to investigate and research information, analyze data in relation to the relevant employment laws, trends, policies and procedures, CBA, and use sound judgment to draw valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action
  • Handles routine labor relations and employee relations inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements; refers complex matters to HR Director.
  • Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
  • Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns, and prepares documentation i.e witness statements, timecard records, video footage, etc. and prepare investigation reports and summaries.

Informs HR Director when additional investigation is required.
  • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for corrective action meetings with employee and labor organizations.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
  • Strong knowledge of HR disciplines around change management, training facilitation, presentation skills, consultative skills, and conflict management.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor degree required with 3-5 years of experience in employee/Labor relations, collective bargaining agreements, workplace investigations and human resources management. Must have current experience in leading investigations and conflict resolution meetings and interpreting policies and procedures for varying levels of staff. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and experience in preparing presentations. Microsoft Word and Excel skills required in addition to data tracking and analytical skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
