SUMMARY: As a professional Resource Biologist, performs professional environmental, fisheries, or related resource biological analysis and coordination, conducts surveys, assists with the coordination of enhancement and management plans, and provides technical consultative services in specialty areas.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Attend meetings with Tribal, state, and private entities to review and develop protection strategies for fish resources.

Participates in the development of environmental policies that affect fisheries resources.

Provide technical reports and recommendations to the Tribal policy personnel for their use in developing Tribal policy positions on fisheries issues.

Assist the Senior Biologist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing Tribal Fishery management programs.

Identify, develop, and implement data collection and monitoring projects beneficial to the fishery resource.

Assist senior biologists in monitoring fishery management issues that are of concern to the Tribe.

Supervise field monitoring of juvenile and adult fish populations, assessing fish usage and population trends.

Monitor tribal catch information and input data into relevant databases.

Coordinate with the Tribal net pen program to include operations, program assessment, and grant and permit requirements.

Work independently, as part of a team, or supervise personnel depending on the specific task or project.

Assist with all Departmental activities and perform other duties as required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master’s Degree in related field and one year of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience OR Associate of Arts Degree in a related field and five years of experience. OR High School and seven years of experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this position are close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and may run the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
