POSITION SUMMARY

The School Safety and Prevention Specialist (SSPS) will work as part of the school safety team to help facilitate the Comprehensive School Safety Plan, follow the Safety Handbook, and assist in meeting annual safety goals. For the 23-24, and 24-25 school years, the SSPS will also act as the COVID lead at the school site to ensure a safe return to in-person instruction. The SSPS will do monthly walkthroughs to evaluate the safety of the school site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform all the following tasks as well as other duties as assigned.

  • The SSPS will support the leadership team to provide regularly scheduled safety assessments, resource referrals, and safety trainings
  • Through engagement and coordination with stakeholders, the SSPS will support in further developing the School Safety Plan and COVID Prevention Plan
  • With support from the leadership team, the SSPS will support the training of site staff related to safety handbooks and prevention plans
  • Actively supervises the school campus to ensure safety and security protocols are being followed
  • Communicates and interacts with students regarding observed behaviors
  • Ensures compliance with all safety rules, protocols, and procedures established at each specific school site
  • Completes mandatory written reports after a safety or security incident
  • Communicates all safety related incidents and concerns to the site leadership team and other responsible individuals at the site
  • Always maintain situational awareness of the school environment
  • Attends ACPHD Liaison trainings and trains staff on protocols
  • Conducts contact tracing (investigation) and communicates with appropriate departments as needed
  • Shares county quarantine instructions with staff as needed
  • Notifies HR, Leaves and site leader for work from home and FFRCA leave options and determines return to work status of employees
  • Completes required reporting forms for Alameda and CCC health departments
  • Responds to COVID-19 concerns at the school sit
  • Provides information and guidance for all members of the school community
  • Primary liaison with the public health department, including for positive case reporting
  • Provides presentations & training on COVID, COVID response, and protocols
  • Track data related to COVID cases, response, etc. and integrates with existing district data systems and departments, ex: SIS, absence, Cost referrals, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (GED), Associate's degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school preferred; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in school safety highly desired. May include, counseling, county health, suicide prevention, threat assessment, law enforcement, juvenile justice, or related fields.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others. Focuses on resolving conflict; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others’ ideas and contributes to building a positive team spirit.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical terms and relate information to others in a concise and digestible manner.
  • Confidentiality: The employee maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to records and data, students, families, and colleagues. The employee uses or relays information only while performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated organizational skills and teamwork skills, ability to multi-task while completing tasks in a timely manner. Ability to work independently and adjust to a changing work environment.
  • Bilingual: Able to translate/communicate with parents and community.
