SECURITY RESOURCE OFFICER

TITLE: Security Resource Officer (SRO)

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Unit Director

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

PAY: $28/hr.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Security Resource Officer (SRO) is responsible for providing protection for students, faculty, and visitors of their assigned school while building positive relationships within the school community and performing law enforcement functions.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

• Patrol the school campus and respond to emergencies on the campus.
• Detain and/or arrest perpetrators of offenses against school personnel or property when necessary.
• Prepare police reports adhering to the existing procedures required by the Duval County Public School Police Department.
• Conduct threat assessments utilizing Duval County Public School Police Department procedures.
• Attend conferences/meetings with students, parents, and faculty as needed to assist with issues related to law enforcement and/or crime prevention.
• Meet regularly with the school principal(s)/administrators to develop strategies to prevent dangerous situations on or near campus.
• Advocate for citizen awareness of law enforcement efforts on campus to ensure the peaceful operation of school-related programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

Maintain close, daily contact with students, faculty, and visitors to receive/provide information regarding potential problems/safety concerns, instruct, advise, and counsel.

External:

Maintain contact and build relationships with external staff, external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in mission advancement.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

• Must possess and maintain current Certification by the State of Florida as a law enforcement officer.
• Must complete the State of Florida School Resource Officer (SRO) Basic Training Course.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Minimum of 1 year of law enforcement experience.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of law enforcement techniques, methods, and procedures.
• Knowledge of security principles and practices.
• Energetic collaborator skilled in building and facilitating relationships.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Other Skills

• Candidate must pass a Level II Background screening and drug screening.
• Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule.

• Experience collaborating with schools, community groups, and Non-Profit experience is a plus.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Much of the work time is conducted in a school setting, M-F from 8am-7pm. Work is considered hazardous due to the nature of the duties.
