Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of flight-critical mechanisms and deployable structures for Impulse’s next-generation transfer and hosting vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Conceptual layout and detailed design of deployable structures such as solar arrays, booms, etc including their linkages, hinges, latches, dampers, and release mechanisms
- Perform analyses to support design including hand calculations, finite element analysis, and kinematic analysis
- Test mechanisms and structures on both component and system levels to validate design intent and characterize performance
- Source commercial components to support design as required
- Update designs and documentation to support continuous improvement
- Work with internal manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designs
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design
- Experience with kinematic mechanical systems
- Experience with both metallic and carbon fiber composite design, analysis, and manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware
- Demonstrated ability to apply dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
- In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who is uniquely creative, self-driven, and is able to lead his or her own projects to completion
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
- Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in space deployable system development (solar array, booms, reflectors, etc)
- Prior experience with testing deployable systems for development, flight qualification, and flight verification
- Prior experience in high performance, cost and mass optimized hardware design
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Experience with Siemens NX
- Experience with creation of deployable structures models in NASTRAN
Additional Requirements:
- Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed
