Job Description

  • Provide mechanical engineering support to proposal/project teams in the planning, design, execution, and commissioning for projects related to HZI Anaerobic Digestion, Power to Gas, Waste Fuel Boilers, Flue Gas Treatment, etc. products.
  • Provide support to Business Development and Sales in the preparation of presentations, documentation, Invitation to Bid (ITB) deliverables, etc.
  • Execute mechanical engineering scope and work plan on complex projects for Front End Engineering and Design (FEED), Engineering-Procure (EP) and Engineering-Procure-Construct (EPC), and Build-Own-Operate (BOO) type projects.
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations (pumps, fans, blower, chillers, valves, etc.) for mechanical components and skids used in complex industrial systems.
  • Preparation of mechanical documents such as Equipment and/or Mechanical Component Specifications/Datasheets, Equipment Sizing Calculations, Equipment Lists, and P&IDs for both proposals and projects.
  • Develop document packages to support Request for Quotes (RFQ) and Final Procurement of mechanical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Ensure HZI equipment and system designs are compliant with HZI Standards, Contractual Obligations, and Regulatory Requirements.
  • Complete mechanical engineering tasks related to the development of system designs and equipment selection for proposal and projects within agreed upon man-hour budgets and schedules.
  • Identify and recommend for evaluation improvement opportunities related to cost and/or schedule alternatives, options, and solutions and present clear and concise fact-based recommendations.
  • Support maintenance of mechanical and piping core knowledgebase for HZI (Anaerobic Digestion, Power to Gas, Waste Fuel Boilers, Flue Gas Treatment, etc.) products as well as adapt and configure established European designs to comply with North American market requirements.
  • Participate in Plot Plan, 3D Model and P&ID Reviews, as well as safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP/ SIL) for proposals and projects.
  • Maintain the technical quality of mechanical engineering deliverables issued for proposals and projects.
  • Support complex technical discussions with key stakeholders (customers, business partners, suppliers, and other departments/disciplines) in order to facilitate appropriate technical decisions.
  • Support formal studies, technical briefings, and presentations to key stakeholders (customers, business partners, suppliers, and other departments/disciplines).
  • Identify issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
  • Understand multi-disciplinary technical issues and be able to provide innovative technical solutions to resolve these issues.
  • Seek ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.  Adhere to quality standards.
  • Maintain compliance with work instructions, standard practices, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related activities as requested.
Qualifications

  • Proficiency with MS Office Software. 
  • Working knowledge of Power (ASME B31.1) and Process (ASME B31.3) design codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/ASME/ASTM/DIN/etc. codes and standards related to tanks, vessels, rotating equipment (pumps, fans, blowers, etc.), materials handling, pressure relief systems.
  • Solid organization skills with the ability to multitask in an environment with changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interface skills with key stakeholders, both internal and external (customer, suppliers, fabricators) to the organization.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required for presentations and reports.
  • Ability to contribute to successful teams.
  • Work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must facilitate good working relationships with superiors, peers, and direct reports.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor or in a team environment.
  • Ability to make sound engineering and commercial decisions 
  • Strong mechanical, analytical and technical skills.
  • Exhibits high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, sometimes upon short notice. 
  • Demonstrated experience as a strong contributor to overall success of teams/departments for small, medium, or large-scale industrial proposals and projects.
  • Experience performing equipment sizing calculations (pumps, fans, blower, chillers, valves, etc.) for mechanical components and skids used in complex industrial systems.
  • Experience preparing mechanical document packages such as Equipment and/or Mechanical Component Specifications/Datasheets, Equipment Sizing Calculations, Equipment Lists, and P&IDs used to support Request for Quotes (RFQ) and Final Procurement of mechanical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Experience with process system studies aimed at improving system performance, reducing utility consumption (power, water, air, etc.) and/or reducing overall cost.
  • Experience in some or all of the of the following industries;
    • Renewable Energy
    • Gas Processing
    • Chemical
    • Power
    • Waste Management
    • Environmental Control Air Quality Control Systems

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to talk or hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:                   

  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
