Job Description

We are currently looking for candidates to fill an Evening Youth Services Supervisor opening for juvenile detention from 4:00 pm - 12:00 am (midnight). Starting salary for this position is $20.82 - $22.00 hourly and a $2.00 an hour pay differential.

General Purpose:

The Youth Service Supervisor is responsible for managing the activities of the staff on their shift. They are to ensure their staff is managing the daily living for residents by guiding, teaching, and correcting the residents according to the guidelines and policies of the program. The employee provides leadership to their staff members and residents and develops effective rapport, resolves problems, communicates clearly, and utilizes conflict resolution skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed at all times
    • Assign tasks as needed to staff
    • Reprimand employees are needed
    • Ensure Shift Reports and Weekly Duty Reports are completed
  • Coordinates the daily living activities of the residents
    • Initiate daily activities by waking residents and supervising daily routines
    • Ensure household chore completion by demonstrating proper techniques and providing assistance as needed
    • Dispense medications following policy and procedures
    • Monitor residents as they sleep per policy and procedures
  • Adheres to procedures for documentation and training
    • Accurately and effectively write shift notes, progress notes, residents daily point sheets, and other documentation per program guidelines
    • Ensure staff documentation is accurate
    • Attend staff meetings/supervisor meetings
    • Attend in-service education sessions and required classes for continuing education
    • Testify in Court as necessary
  • Demonstrates effective communication
    • Develop effective rapport with staff and residents
    • Utilize and teach staff and residents proper problem solving techniques
    • Utilize and teach staff and residents conflict resolutions skills
  • Modify staff schedule
  • Input juvenile information into the computer
  • Train staff on duties as assigned
  • On-call duties when assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public and clients
  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the team providing quality services as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, parents, and residents
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure
  • Familiarity with Juvenile Court procedures
  • Knowledge of statutes and laws regarding juvenile detention
  • Knowledge of juvenile detention standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, related field or related work experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and liability insurance
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check


Minimum ADA and Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone and extensive public contact.
  • Must be able to speak English clearly to clarify or give detailed facts and information
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written instructions and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written/typed documents and text materials.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to apply restraints, and managing physical and verbal confrontations with juveniles and / or parents Employee should also be able to operate standard office equipment and personal computers.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to climb ladders, bend, twist, squat, kneel, apply restraints, and managing physical and verbal confrontations with juveniles and / or parents. Employee should also be able to operate standard office equipment and personal computer and sit at computer/monitor for extended time.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a secure detention setting. The position may require travel to other locations for training.
