Job description

Building the Systems That Keep the Lights On

At Wolverine Power Cooperative, we help keep the lights on by delivering reliable, affordable power to the communities we proudly serve. As a memberowned, missiondriven electric utility, we're committed to safety, system reliability, and longterm energy solutions that serve Michigan for generations to come.

We're currently seeking a Technical Services Supervisor to join our team at one of our service center locations (Atlanta, Dorr, Elmira, Grawn, or Reed City). In this leadership role, you'll guide our Instrumentation & Communications (I&C) and Relay teams by supporting the protection, control, and communications systems that keep our transmission, distribution, and generation facilities operating safely and reliably.

A Day in the Life:

Most days are spent setting the plan, clearing roadblocks, and serving as the technical goto for the I&C and Relay crew-balancing people leadership with handson technical oversight.

Daily work includes:

  • Lining up priorities for testing, repairs, outages, and construction support -- always keeping safety at the forefront
  • Working alongside technicians to troubleshoot relay, SCADA, and control issues and tackle complex problems as they arise
  • Coordinating closely with Engineering, Operations, and the Energy Control Center to ensure switching, schedules, and work packages are solid before crews head out
  • Keeping testing records, documentation, and drawings accurate in coordination with the CAD department and up to date so systems remain reliable, compliant, and auditready

When issues arise after hours, this role provides steady support for oncall response and system restoration as needed.

What We're Looking For:

We're seeking an experienced utility professional who brings strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and a collaborative leadership style.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10 or more years of progressively responsible maintenance experience, electric utility experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of protection, control, instrumentation, and communications systems, including protective relays, SCADA/RTUs, control circuits, metering, and substation communications
  • A working understanding of testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting practices across transmission, substation, distribution, and generation facilities
  • Familiarity with applicable NERC Reliability Standards, NFPA/NEC, OSHA requirements, and utility safety practices
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to direct, train, coach, and evaluate technical staff
  • The ability to prioritize work, make sound decisions, and stay composed during both routine and emergency situations
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working crossfunctionally

Why Join Us?

At Wolverine, we don't just offer jobs-we build longterm careers. We invest in our people and believe reliable power starts with a strong, supported team.

Wolverine employees enjoy:

  • Pension plan
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Zerocost medical, dental, and vision insurance (for your entire family)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Life, shortterm, and longterm disability insurance
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • Educational assistance and ongoing development opportunities
  • A supportive, safetydriven culture grounded in service and teamwork

Headquartered in Cadillac, Michigan, Wolverine Power Cooperative is a notforprofit generation and transmission cooperative owned by eight member cooperatives across the state. Together, we serve more than 300,000 homes, farms, and businesses with reliable, affordable power-every day.

If you're ready to lead critical infrastructure work and make a lasting impact in Michigan's energy future, we'd love to hear from you.

Studies show that individuals from underrepresented groups, including women and people of color, often hesitate to apply for jobs unless they meet every qualification. At Wolverine, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. If you're passionate about this role but don't meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. Your unique experiences and perspectives are what help us grow stronger as a team.
