Location: Amite, Louisiana
Company Overview
Grid Structures, a division of Southland Steel, was launched to provide a better solution for steel poles and structures to the electric utility and renewable energy industries. With production facilities in Louisiana, Grid Structures serves projects nationwide and supports America's electric grid with quality, critical infrastructure, reliability, and national security.
Position Summary
Ensure products meet established quality standards by examining and testing at various stages of the production process.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform nondestructive testing (NDT): Ultrasonic-Shear Wave and Thickness, Visual and Magnetic Particle Level II preferred; trainees considered.
• Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
• Measure product dimensions using rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
• Read blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specs, inspection/testing procedures, and measuring instruments required.
• Record inspection/test data (e.g., weights, temperatures, grades, quantities).
• Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
• Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Classroom training in NDT methods: UT, VT, MT.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication; ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
• Proficiency in effective operation of welding equipment.
• Current CWI and/or Level II NDT certification preferred.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
• Ability to stand for long periods; occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional bending, squatting, or crouching; frequent handling of tools/equipment/material.
• Ability to work in inclement weather (cold, heat, humidity).
Safety Requirements
• Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. safety rules, policies, and procedures; maintain orderly and clean work area; attend required safety meetings.
• Inspect equipment and tools daily; use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.
• Wear appropriate PPE for specific tasks.
