Based in San Antonio, Texas, this independent nonprofit research organization conducts applied research and development in various fields including space science, automotive engineering, energy, and environmental research. With a diverse team of scientists and engineers, they collaborate globally to address complex challenges and develop innovative solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support in constructing and operating chemical processes.
- Maintain cleanliness in work areas and manage parts/equipment inventories.
- Generate requisitions for preventive maintenance tasks.
- Assist in setting up and managing chemical pilot plant processes using pipe, tubing, and AC/DC-powered instruments/equipment.
- Aid in the operation of complex chemical and petroleum processes on a small pilot scale.
- Maintain equipment and vehicles, including tasks like installing/removing insulation, delivering packages, and providing support with welding, cutting, wiring, and wire installation as needed.
- Record operational data in a logbook and communicate it to other shifts.
- Conduct analytical testing using a gas chromatograph.
- Create and oversee chemical and equipment inventory.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems.
- 0-1 years of experience required.
- Proficiency with various hand tools and power tools.
- Experience with chemicals or chemical processes is advantageous.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are a plus.
- Computer proficiency with Word and Excel.
- Willingness to work 24/7 shifts.
- Demonstrated experience in demonstration-scale operations is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- The role involves working in a plant, laboratory, or high bay environment, which includes standing, walking up/down stairs and ladders (10-12 feet), and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- The work sites cover several locations within a 1500-acre property, requiring occasional walking between sites.
- Steel-toed safety shoes are mandatory.
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check is required.
