Middle and Upper School Learning Support Specialist Job Description
Job Summary:
Charleston Collegiate School is seeking a full-time Learning Support Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. Successful candidates will be creative, energetic, and highly skilled professionals who are passionate about student-centered, collaborative, experiential learning. Candidates should also have a proven track record of success supporting diverse learners in grades 6-12. Ideal candidates will have experience helping middle and upper school students understand their learning styles and assisting teachers in working with students with different learning needs. The Learning Support Specialist helps students needing accommodations, reviews psychological and cognitive testing completed by private specialists, and develops strategies and plans to meet the needs of identified students.
Primary responsibilities
- Develop instructional learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives for identified students, including recommendation of in-school or outside resources.
- Provide written reports to school and parents concerning student progress.
- Direct one-on-one or small group instruction to students who need support in grades 5-12.
- Push into classes to support students.
- Attend parent conferences and team meetings as needed.
- Assist with communication between parents and advisors and provide regular monthly student progress reports in writing.
- Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings and other communications appropriate to ethical and professional standards.
- Attend all faculty meetings and grade level meetings when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience with experiential education and project-based learning, especially in developing and adapting support for group projects with learning goals in mind.
- A positive ‘can-do’ attitude and growth mindset
- A willingness to participate in student-life activities e.g., advisory, club leadership, coaching, after-school programs
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject discipline.
- A minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience
