The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for effective decision making and communication with internal and external customers to ensure customer requirements are satisfied. This includes, but is not limited to: analyzing inventory levels and customer forecasts to direct steel procurement; directing material conversion and shipment of product through shop order placement; and gathering, analyzing, and providing competitive information to managers for spot/pick-up opportunities and developing, communicating, and implementing strategies regarding inventory levels, production times and satisfaction of customer needs. To ensure customer satisfaction, comprehensive communication and decision- making dialog with Accounting, Technical Service, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Outside Sales, Management and Administrative Staff is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Customer Service and Relations expectations

  • Develop a complete understanding of customer needs and expectations, communicate these expectations to other departments, and analyze data and develop strategies for meeting these expectations.
  • Gain new business opportunities through managing spot buy process: evaluate customer needs, select material, confirm material availability, conform processing availability, and ensure competitive pricing.
  • Increase sales through building customer relationships and delivering superior customer service.


2. Total Account Management

  • Manage customer orders from inception to payment- order to cash.
  • Analyze customer forecast/usage to provide direction for raw material procurement.
  • Establish New Customer/New Item creation in Steel Technologies' system; working with customer, Outside Sales, and AR to ensure credit line and terms are established; working with customer, Outside Sales, and AR to ensure credit line and terms are established; working with customer, Outside Sales, and Technical Service to review customer PO, spec, material requirements, and accurately enter into system.
  • Work with buyers to analyze customer inventory position and develop strategies to ensure adequate inventory is in the supply chain to meet the customers' requirements while meeting inventory goals established by Steel Technologies
  • Direct production facilities to convert raw materials to finished product through order placement: evaluate forecasted demand, customer usage history, market conditions, and processing lead times to develop a strategy for meeting customer requirements and maintaining balanced inventory levels; ensure accuracy of ordered quantities and pricing.
  • Assist production facilities in creating schedules to meet customer requirements; make decisions to push out or pull ahead production orders based on analysis of customer inventory position and demands.
  • Coordinate efforts with Logistics to build releases, fill truckload quantities, and schedule material releases to ensure customer requirements are satisfied; make decisions to ship light or pass extra freight costs through to customer based on analysis of inventory levels and sales agreements between customer and Steel Technologies
  • Manage claim entry and ensure disposition is provided to customer in a timely manner: Enter claim information into system, provide accurate information to Technical Service representative and facility, make changes, if required, to item/spec information, coordinate with Logistics to ensure timely pick-up of rejected material, direct production facility to process replacement material
  • Act as a liaison between customer and AR to assist with collection issues; work with AR to develop and carry out strategies for controlling shipments to customers experiencing payment. issues
  • Generate, maintain and analyze various reports and spreadsheets to provide direction and recommendations to other departments and to provide information to customers.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Thorough general knowledge and understanding of customer service and inventory. management
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and manage difficult customer situations..
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet. deadlines
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Computer Skills: familiarity Microsoft Suites and basic computer skills
  • Excellent data entry skills required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Prefer an Associate's Degree in a related field with two to four years of sales, purchasing or customer service experience in a production environment. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

This work is performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people.
