Responsibilities:
Seeking a Chemical laboratory technician to synthesize and characterize materials for an externally funded research project.
Job Description:
· Preparation of polymer particles via emulsion polymerization (e.g., polystyrene, poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(acrylic acid), poly(divinyl benzene)
· The incorporation of fluorophores in the particles will be explored, as well as effects of solvents on the particles and fluorophores
· This will include particle swelling, ability of solvents to leach fluorophores out of particles, and maximum concentration of fluorophore that can be incorporated into the particles
· The effects of solvents on nitrocellulose membranes will also be characterized, and studies on wetting of the membranes will be undertaken
Qualifications:
· Synthetic and analytical chemistry laboratory skills are required
· Knowledge of organic chemistry
· Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Materials Engineering is required
Employment type: Contract; on-site
Schedule: 40-hours a week; onsite Monday-Friday
