Position Summary:

The MV Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all Medium Voltage (MV) operations within the construction project. This includes the effective management of personnel, materials, equipment, and safety protocols to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • MV Project Management: Oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of all MV construction operations, and ensure that project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Workforce Management: Directly supervise and manage the MV construction team, ensuring effective communication, motivation, and productivity. Conduct regular training and performance evaluations to improve workforce skills and work ethic.
  • Material and Equipment Management: Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure a steady and efficient supply of materials and equipment needed for the MV construction tasks, and maintain strict inventory control and effective equipment usage to minimize waste and optimize productivity.
  • Quality Control: Implement and enforce high quality standards in all MV construction operations, and regularly inspect construction work, tools, and equipment to ensure adherence to project standards and safety regulations.
  • Safety Management: Implement, enforce, and monitor safety procedures in all MV operations to minimize risks and accidents and ensure all work is performed in compliance with all safety regulations, and industry-specific standards.
  • Contractor Relations: Manage relationships with subcontractors and other external partners involved in the MV construction operations, and ensure that all subcontractors comply with project standards and contractual obligations.

Key Deliverables:

  • Regular attendance and active participation in morning and afternoon project meetings, contributing valuable updates and insights about the MV operations.
  • Regular updates to the 3-week look-ahead schedule, ensuring it accurately reflects MV operation plans and timelines.
  • Daily updates to site management on the progress made in the MV operations during the day.
  • Efficient and effective management of end-to-end MV operations, ensuring the on-time completion of tasks with minimum wastage or loss.
Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Must have 4+ years of experience in a solar construction environment or utility construction environment.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in:
    • Safety and OSHA requirements
    • LOTO implementation & management
    • Electrical installation experience
    • Interpretation of a project schedule
    • Planning and task direction
    • Adaptability to environment
    • Working in fast paced environment
    • Interpretation of scopes of work
    • Project permits
    • Strong decision making skills
    • Understanding environmental concepts including permit requirements
    • Interpreting state rules and regulations
    • Contract management
    • Sub-contractor and vendor and materials management
    • Electrical construction drawing review
    • Electrical drawing quantity takeoff
  • Intermediate level of knowledge in:
    • Project management
    • Creating logical and resource-loaded project schedules
    • Budget analysis and controls
    • Change orders
    • QA/QC processes
    • Development of processes and procedures
    • Continuous improvement such as Lean, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management
    • Project finance
    • Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook, Visio)
    • Job costing or accounting software
  • Basic level of knowledge in:
    • Engineering management
    • Scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera 6)
    • Proficient in construction in both electric substations (energized and green field) and transmission lines

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, tools, and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
  • Endurance to perform physical tasks throughout the workday, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Agility and flexibility to navigate construction sites and access work areas, including climbing ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, and tunnels.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
