We are a full-service HVAC, building automation, chiller, and retrofit contractor with a reputation for combining high-quality consulting services with customized energy solutions. Our integrated, single-source solutions include turnkey in-house capabilities with design assistance, as well as engineering applications and automated control systems.

Job Summary

The Automation Superintendent oversees manpower scheduling, field installation, commissioning, and quality control of automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, and building automation equipment. This role ensures automation projects are completed safely, on schedule, and according to specifications. The superintendent supports project teams, coordinates subcontractors, and provides technical guidance to field personnel.

Needs to work with operations team to manage the field personnel scheduling of both installation and programming/graphics activities. The primary objective is to ensure project schedules are kept while minimizing inefficiencies due to lack of planning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Supervise daily field automation activities to ensure compliance with plans, safety requirements, quality standards, along with EMCORs required field submission items such as dailys, pre task plans, etc. Coordinate installation, testing, and commissioning of PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems. Review engineering designs, control drawings, point to point schedules, and submittals. Troubleshoot automation hardware and software issues during construction and startup. Provide technical direction to automation technicians and subcontractors. Conduct site inspections to verify correct installation and functionality of automation equipment. Collaborate with project managers to maintain schedules and resolve technical issues. Ensure documentation, redlines, and as builts are completed accurately. Support commissioning, functional testing, and system turnover processes. Maintain strong communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

Qualifications

High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree in engineering preferred. 5+ years of experience in automation, controls installation, or industrial electrical work. Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, and control wiring standards. Experience with automation platforms such as BACnet, or Modbus. Ability to read and interpret control drawings and technical specifications. Proficiency with laptops, commissioning tools, and office software. Strong leadership and communication skills. Experience as foreman and/or running jobs with 3-5 personnel and multiple trades. OSHA 30 certification preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to travel among job sites.
