NATURE OF WORK
Under basic supervision, performs moderately complex bookkeeping and accounting work in the maintenance and review of detailed financial records. Maintains accurate archives to ensure that deeds and other legal documents are recorded according to State law.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Prepares and maintains records information, fees, charges, payments, receipts, and other pertinent recording data; maintains journal and ledgers in accordance with established procedures.
- Examines and processes all legal documents entering the department via mail, courier, title companies, and in person deliveries; logs all documents received.
- Balances daily receipts, checks, cash, and charges; prepares bank deposit; verifies money disbursement prepares title company reports; maintains cash and receipts of licenses with daily report to be reconciled.
- Signs certification on behalf of the Recorder; accepts and completes marriage license applications; issues and indexes licenses.
- Greets, directs, and assists customers; responds to various inquiries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a standard office environment and involves sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending reaching, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous customer service and bookkeeping experience preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age, live in Franklin County for at least 1 year and a Registered Voter.
Depending on area of assignment, a valid Driver’s License, Notary Public License, and/or other specialized certifications may be required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of:
- County and department policies and procedures.
- Bookkeeping principles, practices, and procedures.
- Statutes, laws, and regulations relating to the recording and maintenance of legal information.
Skills in:
- Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Classifying, tabulating, and computing data.
- Operating a computer, standard software, and some specialized software.
