Position Description
The IDEAL Learning Specialist, working individually and in small groups with students in the Learning Center, will support students with a wide range of learning profiles by providing intervention, remediation, and extension for students in individual and small group settings. The Learning Specialist will possess experience in language-based learning differences and other various disabilities. This Learning Specialist will primarily work with students in Grades 6-12, and may also work with Lower School students as needed. They will be a part of a collaborative team of learning specialists in the Learning Center. As a part of their role, the Learning Specialist will support IDEAL’s students by assisting Teachers and Associate Teachers in meeting the range of learning needs of their students within an inclusive classroom.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide one-on-one and small-group support and instruction for students
Support IDEAL’s students by assisting Teachers and Associate Teachers in meeting the range of learning needs of their students within an inclusive classroom
Work with teachers as needed to support them in differentiating for IDEAL’s wide range of learners
Support teaching staff in and out of the classroom by offering coaching and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of IDEAL’s wide range of learners
Provide students throughout our inclusive program with additional support in reading, writing, and executive functioning skills, individually and in small groups in the Learning Center
Analyze progress-monitoring data and student achievement, report on student progress in conferences, on reports, and through regular communication with colleagues and families
Meet with individual parents as necessary to discuss the progress of their children.
Read and summarize all Psych-Ed evaluations for Middle and Upper School and for Admissions as necessary.
Assist with the writing of individual learning plans (ILPs) that will target pupils’ specific curricular/learning needs.
Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations.
Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support.
Attend CSE meetings as appropriate.
Requirements
Requirements:
Master of Education with Special Education Designation
Training and degree/certification as a special education teacher required
Experience with reading remediation programs (Wilson, PAF, Orton Gillingham, etc)
Experience in working with students with various disabilities
Experience with relevant assistive technology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
At least three years of experience in a relevant area
