ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SAFETY SPECIALIST
MONTGOMERY, AL

SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. Responsible for company safety and training programs.

EDUCATION / JOB EXPERIENCE:

1. BS in Environmental Engineering or closely related field preferred
2. Over 2 years experience in manufacturing
3. Prior experience working with regulatory agencies, i.e. local water board, ADEM, EPA, etc.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure company compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
2. Collaborate with others and business to address EHS issues.
3. Inform management, company employees, and other interested parties of EHS issues.
4. Develop, coordinate, and maintain training plan, to include training material calendar and matrix.
5. Provide administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, training staff, and performing other general administrative duties.
6. Assist in budget implementation, forecasts, and administration.
7. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Ability to speak in front of large groups and communicate ideas effectively.
2. Computer skills, i.e. Power Point, Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, and standard office equipment.
3. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirement.
4. Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
5. Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, walk up and down steps, and lift objects when necessary.

1. Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
2. Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
3. Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
