The Investment Analyst plays an integral role on the project development team, acting as the transaction lead from deal initiation to close. This role requires an assertive, proactive, and multi-faceted approach with a strong understanding of financial data and modeling, and/or econometric input-output modeling, and commercial real estate lending risk. This position also requires domestic and international travel up to 25%.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts introductory/preliminary calls, video meetings, and in-person meetings to screen and vet new project proposals.
  • Analyzes and conducts preliminary underwriting on new project proposals and provide summaries to management.
  • Plans, structures, coordinates, conducts, and documents real estate finance transactions from deal initiation to close.
  • Negotiates and documents transactions terms and conditions while working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partners with legal team to ensure project compliance and consistency in transactional documents and practices.
  • Utilizes due diligence, financial modeling and analysis, structuring, and underwriting to understand and mitigate transaction risks.
  • Develops, modifies, maintains, and presents financial analysis reports, financial models, and market research analysis to determine financial feasibility for potential projects.
  • Analyzes project structural and financial strengths and reviews financial/pro forma models.
  • Prepares risk assessments and presents recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Develops sensitivity analysis and key drivers and evaluates risk/return dynamics for proposed transactions.
  • Reviews internal documents, financial terms, and standard investment documents to ensure compliance and consistency with applicable legal and business practices of the investor market.
  • Forecasts credit risk and stress testing by analyzing financial data and statements, cash flows, capital and deal structures, and collateral.
  • Performs due diligence and fundamental analyses to evaluate loan request and borrower ability to repay debt.
  • Conducts industry and capital market research and maintains strong understanding of trends and regulatory environment.
  • Prepares and coordinates business presentations, and acts as a company ambassador when meeting with borrowers or attending seminars/panels/conferences.
  • Travels up to 25% (domestic and international).
  • Speaks publicly to both domestic and international seminars/events, and with sufficient experience, serves on panels as subject matter expert.
  • Conducts both in-person and online meetings with prospective clients while presenting investment details and answering questions.
  • Provides employee training and development through technical guidance, shared knowledge, and/or mentorship.
  • Completes additional projects or tasks, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail and positive attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Strong analytical abilities and aptitude in complex problem-solving
  • Strong quantitative background with experience in financial modeling
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, understanding and risk assessment, and real estate finance transactions.
  • Ability to build trust and respect with both employees and leadership for training, development, and/or mentorship.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related field, and at least three (3) years' work experience in related field required.
  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, economics, or related field, preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Proven experience working with econometric input-output modeling is a plus.
  • Proven experience maintaining and refining large data sets is a plus.
  • Prior sales experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Constant sedentary work for prolonged periods up to 100% of the time with occasional moving and transporting up to 10 pounds. Must be able to constantly communicate and exchange accurate information. Constantly operates and uses computer and other relevant equipment and the office machinery while performing repetitious movements.

What are the hours?

This is a hybrid position located in either our Dallas, TX office. The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8a to 5p daily. CMB employees are extended the opportunity to work from home two days a week after their introductory period.
