Job Title: Forklift Operator (TWIC)
Location: New Orleans, LA
Job Type: Full-Time
Shift: Day Shift and Night Shift Opportunities; 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, including weekends as needed.
Overview:
We are looking for a competent Forklift Operator to support our stevedoring operations by efficiently handling cargo within the terminal. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating forklifts to move, stack, and organize large cargo items safely and precisely. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth execution of cargo loading and unloading processes to meet productivity targets and operational deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts to transport goods and materials around the premises efficiently.
- Load and unload cargo from trucks, ships, and other transport vehicles.
- Stack and organize large cargo blocks within the storage facility to maximize space efficiency.
- Inspect product loads for accuracy, and safely transport them around the logistic facilities.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety guidelines to operate forklifts in a secure manner.
- Perform daily equipment checks, such as recharging the forklift’s battery and lubricating equipment.
- Report to supervisors regarding any major repairs or malfunctions, including hydraulic systems and steering parts.
- Follow instructions for handling goods and materials as directed by the operations manager.
- Maintain cleanliness and neatness around the workstation.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card.
- Proven experience as a forklift operator with a valid license to operate powered forklifts.
- Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset.
- Proficient in the use of automated and semi-automated equipment.
- Strong understanding of general safety rules within a stevedoring or maritime terminal.
- Physical strength and ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good organizational skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work shifts, during nighttime, and on weekends as required.
Work Environment:
- This role involves operating a forklift primarily outdoors and within large warehouse spaces.
- The work setting includes exposure to mechanical devices, elevated noise levels, and potential environmental conditions such as dust and varying temperatures.
- The position requires physical robustness to handle heavy and awkward loads, repetitive movements, and sitting for prolonged periods.
