Helpings Cafe Assistant

Position Description: The Helpings Café Assistant is responsible for providing premier customer service in a front-of-house barista role. The Café Assistant takes orders, facilitates and processes payment, makes drink orders/delivers food to customers in a counter service restaurant setting. The Café Assistant plays an important role in maintaining safe, clean, stocked, and efficient kitchen and restaurant operations. The Café Assistant acts as a liaison between front-of-house service needs and back-of-house production. Additionally, the Café Assistant provides positive training support and model's best practices in customer service for UMOM's Homegrown foodservice training program participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcomes and connects with every customer.
- Performs opening and closing duties as needed and/or assigned.
- Follows and directs others to follow store policies and procedures for operational flow at each station.
- Follows health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Ensures all company policies, store operating standards and procedures are communicated effectively and maintained and followed in a consistent manner.
- Assists with special projects and/or kitchen operations as needed.
- Contributes to store goals for increasing sales and improving profit.
- Ensures all cash handling and cash register functions are performed in an accurate and consistent manner.
- Assists in inventory control and stocking store.
- Coaches Homegrown trainees through their learning process in a positive, motivating manner.
- Acts as a role model to trainees while providing guidance and training.
- Effectively communicates new product information to Homegrown trainees.
- Performs and assists Homegrown trainees to complete the cleaning and operational tasks in accordance with the store guidelines.
Qualifications and Competency Requirements:
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of barista experience preferred
- Bi-lingual English / Spanish preferred
Computer Skills
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn, basic applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook for email communication and documentation responsibilities
Compliance
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
- Current Arizona Food Handlers Certification Card or the ability to obtain one

- This position is very active and requires standing, moving, bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching all day. The duties of this job require regular exposure to kitchen conditions including heat, cold, humid, wet, smoke, and loud noises.

Work Schedule: The typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm.
