Associate Quality Assurance Technologist

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager

Location: Tacoma/Bremerton, WA (will rotate)

Category: Full Time Non-Exempt

Shift: Days

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in developing, executing, and monitoring the quality assurance plan with guidance from the Quality Assurance Department Manager with a focus on the Fabrication Department for SAFE Boats Tacoma facility. Performs product inspections for the welding/fabrication department and documents accordingly. Identifies and communicates ongoing QA concerns for resolution. Assist manufacturing engineers / technologists with problem solving. With support and direction from Senior QA Technologists and leadership, audit processes and provide process instruction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts quality inspections during determined build timeframes/benchmarks
  • Recommend changes to existing processes, procedures, and product designs to improve product quality.
  • Recommend changes to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within system design limits.
  • Audit processes and procedures to verify compliance with standards and to verify that equipment is used correctly.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, formulas, and customer requirements to establish quality and reliability standards.
  • Perform data analysis to monitor quality trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Use Company non-conformity and engineering change processes and databases to include data entry and analysis.
  • Prepare and interpret charts, graphs, and diagrams that illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
  • Aid in planning quality assurance work assignments.
  • Report deviations from existing standards.
  • Record test data and assist in application of statistical quality control procedures.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and travel, on short notice as necessary.
  • Ability to work well under compressed time constraints.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects at one time.
  • Understanding of how to utilize precision measurements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and adept at learning new software systems.

  • Tools and Test Equipment: Use common hand tools and power tools and become proficient in the use of test equipment such as multi meters, watt meters, antenna analyzers, flowmeters, load cells, and strain gauges.
  • Problem Sensitivity: The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and report the problem appropriately. This does not include troubleshooting or solving the problem.
  • Near Vision: The ability to see details at close range (from several inches to several feet) of the observer.

Required Experience & Education:

  • Associate in Applied Science in a manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Five years of experience working as a fabricator/welder focusing on aluminum boats, ideally two of which should be in a leadership role
  • AWS (American Welding Society) certifications strongly desired

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
  • Ability to bend, crouch, twist, balance, climb, lay and position one’s body in order to access tight spaces
  • Ability to lift and carry over 40 LBS without assistance
  • Ability to work in “the elements” outdoors- in rain, heat, cold, and wind- while conducting inspections
  • Ability to go underway on a SAFE Boats product in high sea states
