Job Description

Work closely with the Director of Financial Aid in performing and carrying out the functions of the Financial Aid Office.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Ensures effective dissemination of information regarding external scholarship programs to students, parents, and others by maintaining the scholarship portion of the Notre Dame web page and cooperating with the Admissions Office in the distribution of publications, letters, and other materials.
  2. Act as lead agent in the administration of the FWS and Bonner program.
  3. Perform Return of Title IV Calculations.
  4. Provides financial aid counseling to students and parents in accordance with federal, state and institutional policies.
  5. Performs financial aid revisions to students' financial aid awards as needed.
  6. Conducts need analysis and determines individual student eligibility for various aid programs.
  7. Attends and participates in professional groups, seminars and/or courses.
  8. Coordinate training of new office staff and student workers with assistance from the Director of Financial Aid
  9. Represent the University at professional, civic, education and government meetings as required.
  10. Assist Director with completion of financial aid reports for the University as requested.
  11. Demonstrate a belief in the missions of the University by maintaining an institutional view of projects and priorities.
  12. Promotes a positive image of the Financial Aid Office by making presentations to inform the public about the various financial aid programs and associated application processes.
  13. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required. Post graduate work preferred. Knowledge of need analysis and verification procedures, financial aid software, knowledge of federal financial aid regulations, mainframe database experience, managerial aptitude.

Experience: 2-3 years experience in financial aid.

Skills/Aptitude: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective presentations before large groups of students and parents, are required. Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues related to the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body is required. The ability to collect and analyze data, converting it to information that can be communicated to other University personnel, is required. The ability to relate effectively to students, parents, staff, faculty, and administrators is required. Strong organizational and management skills are required. Experience with office applications software, preferably Microsoft Office products, is required. Experience with Ellucian, MDCAPS, NSLDS is required.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some overtime may be required.
