Manager of Digital Learning Technologies and Instructional Designer

Hiram College is seeking a full time Manager of Digital Learning Technologies and Instructional Designer. The primary duty of the position is to create, support, and train faculty on how to design, re-design, develop, improve, and deliver online courses and programs while administering the College's learning management system, Moodle. Manage the learning and assessment e-portfolio program. Accountable for timely, accurate, and customer-centered support and instructional delivery that meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for working with faculty and staff to develop and deliver engaging online and blended course content using the College's learning management system, Moodle. In addition, the Instructional Designer is responsible for managing the e-portfolio system, Digication, and oversees training and use of the e-portfolios to faculty, staff, and students. The Instructional Designer coordinates the use of the e-portfolio for learning and assessment working with the Coordinator of Liberal Education and the Associate Dean's Office.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Guides faculty in creating and designing materials within the learning management system, Moodle.
  • Demonstrates the emerging technological tools, best practices, techniques, and apps faculty can incorporate into their classrooms, regardless of course format.
  • Provides professional development and Quality Matters (QM) workshops, individual training, and guidance to faculty on improving and maintaining quality assurance through integrating QM standards.
  • Increases Hiram College course submissions for QM certification, thus making continuous improvements to online courses offered by the institution.
  • Oversees all aspects of the College's learning management system, Moodle, and the e-portfolio system, Digication.
  • Coordinates with Student Academic Services to create clear and efficient academic policies, documentation, and communication for the Hiram College community.
  • Serves as academic liaison with I.T.
  • Develops training for the course assistants and students who will be assisting first-year classes and courses for all campus constituencies around Moodle and e-portfolios.
  • Coordinates with Student Affairs to oversee course assistants.
  • Increases the usage of Moodle and e-portfolios by campus constituencies.
  • Runs workshops for programs, departments, and schools on how to develop program-specific templates for showcasing major and capstone work within e-portfolios.
  • Works with the associate dean to expand the use of the e-portfolio.
  • Administers accounts, trains, and assists all users on features and functionality, ancillary tools, and troubleshoots when necessary for all software previously listed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking, fast paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office365 and Professional Suite; Windows O/S, Mac OS X and iOS; Apple hardware; iPad applications; Quality Matters; Learning Management Systems; Scheduling Software; Zoom; Web-conferencing systems.

    Experience, Education, Requirements
  • 3 years prior experience and training in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Curriculum Design.
  • Experience providing or facilitating instructional or programmatic design.
  • Experience integrating multimedia into course/program design or other teaching, learning, or professional development venues.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's Degree or related field preferred.
  • Access to transportation and a PC or Mac device with Internet connectivity during off-hours.
  • Work outside of regular hours as needed.
