Aircraft Equipment Operator Job Description

Summary/Objective

Operates a manually controlled gasoline, electric or liquid propane powered piece of material handling equipment (MHE) to load or transport goods and materials to/from a C-130J Fuselage Trainer (FUT). This includes forklifts, k-loaders or other approved MHE. Organizes and secures loads to pallets, platforms, skids or other lifting devices. Performs routine pre and post inspections of MHE to ensure suitable and safe operating condition. Report to supervisors regarding damage to MHE, loads, or other equipment or any potential safety hazards. Weigh & mark equipment per USAF guidance. Consult, work and coordinate with supervisors, managers, coworkers and site staff instructors/students regarding the loading/unloading operation. Complete all required MHE operator training provided as required. Perform other tasks as directed by the CLS Manager, Lead Technician or supervisor. Pushing and pulling of pallets is required daily that weigh anywhere from 100 lbs to 13,000 lbs. Involves frequent lifting of trailers/equipment onto vehicles, bending and stooping. Contact with rollers on the floor areas of the trainer and at loading docks is common.

  • Applies working knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks in support of loading and offloading cargo to and from MHE equipment FuT.
  • Assist student classes and instructors during cargo operations in the training devices to include pushing and pulling cargo, applying and removing aircraft tie-down equipment, and other general aircraft loading requirements.
  • Receives technical guidance as required from supervisor and higher-level equipment operators.
  • Maintains required documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Monitors and tracks the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities.
  • Documents maintenance requirements identified during operation of MHE and support equipment.
  • Conducts voice communications on phone, inter-phone and radio circuits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies

Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Must exhibit high performance and capability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to drive a fork-lift, man-lift, k-loader, or other MHE Support equipment as required.
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds over head.
  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device.
  • Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.

Education and Experience

High School diploma is required with related skill areas to include MHE operations experience.

Work Environment, Programs, and Tools
This position operates in a shop floor environment. Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure.

Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, loud noises.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position will be on site at Little Rock, AR and will require adherence to the Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time hourly non-exempt position, expected to work 40 hours a payroll period. This position may require evening/weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when Program support is needed. The ability to work overtime is required. Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.

Travel
Must be willing and able to travel. Domestic and International travel may be required.

Security Clearance
DoD Secret Clearance is required or the ability to obtain one.
