An aircraft machinist operates a machine and specialized tools to build and repair parts in the aviation manufacturing industry. Their responsibilities include reading blueprints; determining the speed and path to cut; removing, cutting, and shaping material; and detecting and resolving issues. An aircraft machinist works with aluminum, plastic, titanium, steel, silicon, and other materials. Their other duties are to ensure proper safety procedures and regulations are followed, fix equipment, and to keep a clean workspace. Qualifications to become an aircraft machinist typically include a high school degree and completion of an apprenticeship or on-the-job training.
