Aircraft sheet metal mechanics fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair the metal parts of an aircraft. Some work with other materials as well, such as fiberglass or bonded honeycomb. In this role, you lay out plans based on the engineer's blueprints, then assemble and install components to the aircraft. Your job duties may include sizing and cutting the metal components and painting them once the parts are installed. You may also be responsible for performing routine inspections on the aircraft and troubleshooting issues to discover problem spots in the aircraft frame and components. Once you have completed the necessary repairs, you must clean and maintain your power tools and other equipment.
