Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) seeks an Assistant Retail Store Manager with a passion for education who can leverage their retail experience to promote RAFT's values. The assistant manager supports all aspects of RAFT's retail operations, working closely with the store manager, warehouse and production team, and volunteers.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for bridging the gap between store member and the shopping experience at RAFT. As the Assistant Manager you will oversee merchandising placement, updating displays, pricing, POS operation, training staff, collaborating with teams on setting and achieving team-specific goals, selling products, and, most importantly, providing high-quality customer service to our members.

Sample of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities as assigned by the Store Manager, including making executive decisions, holding meetings, and providing accountability.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (PoS) system, including opening, closing, and reconciliation.
  • Lead RAFT's Facebook Marketplace to assist selling high value/unique donated items.
  • Support all aspects of multiple large-sale events/membership drives throughout the year.
  • Implement and train Store Associates on RAFT's customer experience.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager on addressing customer complaints.
  • Conduct 1:1 feedback and on-the-spot coaching for Store Associate.
  • Champion opportunities to consistently improve the shopping experience.
  • Answer questions or discuss concerns with customers on the phone, via email, or through online chats.
  • Maintain a clean and safe retail environment, including trash removal as needed.
  • Develop weekly staff schedule.
  • Support with monitoring employee attendance and timecard approval.
  • Manage processing staff.
  • Work with RAFT warehouse staff to receive and process deliveries.
  • Keep a wide range of products and materials well-stocked and neatly displayed on the sales floor.
  • Organize sales and product demonstrations.
  • Support the production team and assist with onsite volunteer management.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Write and speak clearly and concisely
  • Knowledge of visual and merchandising practices
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills working with members, donors, staff, and management
  • Be service-oriented, actively contributing to a friendly, welcoming retail environment
  • Be a well-organized, detail-oriented problem-solver, capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently with limited supervision
  • Good time management skills to set realistic deadlines and follow specific steps to reach time-sensitive objectives
  • Ability to use pallets jacks, hand trucks, and other warehouse equipment
  • Must be available to work Tuesday - Saturday, some nights may be required.


Education and/or Experience:

  • 1-2 years of previous retail experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Associates or higher degree in business, marketing, or related field, preferred.
