Job Summary
The Buyer will be responsible for maintaining efficient inventory levels, sourcing and procuring goods and materials, negotiating with suppliers, and optimizing costs to support the operations of all Nixon Power locations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, reliability, and cost.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and assist in the development of supplier score cards.
- Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and discounts with suppliers.
- Determine necessary inventory levels based on demand, delivery time, and total landed cost.
- Place orders with suppliers while securing the best possible delivery times and price.
- Maintain proper on-hand inventory levels through demand planning and by placing orders in a timely manner.
- Obtain updated parts pricing and estimated delivery times as needed.
- Monitor outstanding purchase orders and follow up as needed.
- Track and report on key performance indicators.
- Continuously seek cost-saving opportunities through process improvements, alternative sourcing, and supplier negotiation.
- Possess a working knowledge of purchasing, warehousing and inventory control policies and procedures.

- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and teach others complex data, processes, and control tasks.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to function effectively within a cross-departmental structure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite of programs.
Education & Experience Preferences/Requirements
Degree Required: High School education of GED Degree Preferred: None
Years of Experience: 4-5
- 5+ years’ experience in purchasing or buying role.
- Technical expertise in logistics operations preferred.
- Experience with Crystal Reports and Great Plains Dynamics preferred.
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook
