Job Description

Classification: Full-time: Mid-August through Dec. 2024, Exempt

Reports to: Middle School Principal and High School Principal

The Adelson School is looking for dedicated educators to join our staff for the 2024-25 school year. With class sizes that average 15 students and competitive salaries and benefits, The Adelson School is a wonderful environment for teachers looking to join a close-knit educational community. We seek an experienced Life Science/Biology teacher to teach middle and high school classes.

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and experience teaching science to middle and/or high school students. Experience teaching Biology, Anatomy & Physiology and AP Biology are strongly preferred. Additional experience working in industry or research, Project Lead the Way experience in the Biomedical Science program strand, and/or coaching students to compete in HOSA are all pluses. (Note that we are not seeking teachers whose predominant experience is in Environmental Science.)

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a curriculum and lesson plans that will foster knowledge and skills essential to effectively teach students in the grade assigned.

• Create hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that build excitement for science.

• Evaluate each student’s progress in his/her knowledge and critical thinking skills.

• Communicate with parents to discuss the individual student’s progress.

• Conduct assessment of student learning and use results to plan instructional activities.

• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

• Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school.

• Assist in the selection of books and other instructional materials.

• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

• Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Life Science field (Biology preferred), Science Education, or related field.

• Minimum of 2 years of science teaching experience at the 6-12 level.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting.

• Must be able to lift twenty-five pounds at times.

• At times may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
