Secondary School Principal Xavier Charter School Secondary Dean (7-12)
Position Purpose
An Xavier Charter School Secondary Principal/Dean (7-12) ensures the academic, behavioral, and cultural integrity through consistent application of leadership and the development of their teachers. The Secondary Principal/Dean manages faculty growth and support through teamwork, curriculum integrity and implementation, student performance monitoring, student behavior, and supports a scholarly environment. The Secondary Principal/Dean is a person of moral integrity, wisdom, self-responsibility, and steadfastness. They willingly display and find joy in their duties, especially through their focus on healthy teamwork and servant leadership. They are a critical liaison to the Xavier Charter School community, including the school board, families, alumni, students, and staff. The Secondary/Principal Dean must love what is beautiful and ordered, so that they recognize what is true, and therefore what is good. An Xavier Charter School Secondary Principal/Dean encourages and participates in the culture and community of Xavier and supports the mission and vision of the school. In short, they live by the principles modeled by the classical philosophers Marcus Aurelius and Socrates.
Key Responsibilities and Oversight
School Culture for 7-12 grades: Fosters an intentional work ethic, joyful engagement, and a gracious embodiment of Xavier Charter School values.
Family and Stakeholder Partnership: Serves as the primary liaison between families and the school community for grades 7-12, addressing student and family concerns, and celebrating successes.
Academic Oversight: Monitors student performance in grades 7-12, assists in the development of new curriculum and course offerings, intervention programs, 504 and IEP programs.
Teacher Partnership: Coaches teachers on classical pedagogy and other district behavior and character models. Assists teachers in professional growth and engagement in learning.
Administrative Oversight and Duties: Assists the Head of Schools in operations and administrative tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Applies the standard policies and administrative procedures of Xavier Charter School, established by the school board, the Head of Schools, and in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Supports the philosophy, policies, procedures, and other pertinent data as published in the current Faculty Handbook, Student Handbooks, and in the Xavier Charter School mission and vision.
  • Acts as a liaison between families, students, faculty and staff in day-to-day matters and in escalated academic or disciplinary concerns.
  • Observes, coaches, and evaluates teachers as assigned by the Head of Schools.
  • Oversees student culture and discipline for grades 7-12.
  • Works with the Administrative Team to ensure the whole school culture, safety, academic, and other environmental aspects.
  • Oversees the Secondary School events and helps support key events through collaborative planning.
  • Participates in short and long-term planning for the school in collaboration with the Head of Schools and the Administrative Team.
  • Assists the Administrative Team in planning and executing teacher professional development training, staff meetings, and in-service days.
  • Attends staff and community professional development as assigned by the Head of Schools.
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Counseling on master schedule creation, teacher class assignments, student placement, and meeting cycles.
  • Collaborates with the Academic Dean to ensure a three-year cycle of scope and sequence review for 7-12 grades.
  • Substitute in classrooms for grades K-12 if needed, including lunch duty, recess duty, or other staff coverage as assigned by the Head of Schools.
  • Serves on the Administrative Team and other critical leadership teams, supporting all team decisions and task execution as assigned by the Head of Schools.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, time management skills, and operational skills.

Additional Requirements
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Head of Schools and/or Board of Directors.
Idaho State fingerprint clearance.
Physical functions: requires, but is not limited to, standing, sitting, repeating hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 25 lbs approximately.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
  • Idaho State Certification as required for the position.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree in School Administration, or equivalent leadership.

Experience
  • Extensive successful teaching experience (No less than 5 years) at the Secondary School level, preferably in more than one subject area and grade level.
  • Successful administrative experience at the Secondary School level is preferred.
