Job Description

This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operation of the City of New Albany's recreation centers. Recreation Center Supervisors will organize, instruct, promote, lead and conduct a diversified recreational program for ages 5-13. They must be able to implement weekly activities in cooperation with co-workers. Will provide food for and feed youth. They will make daily inspection of equipment and facility to ensure safety. They will be responsible for all required paperwork, ensuring documents are properly prepared and turned in on time. They must demonstrate common sense with disciplinary action of youth and adhere to all rules and agency policies

The Recreation Center Supervisor is a part time year round position with a typical schedule of 3-4 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, but extra hours may be required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. *Organize, instruct, promote, lead and conduct a diversified recreational program for ages 5-13 years old at recreation center.
  2. *Plan weekly arts and crafts projects, team games, sports, social activities, low organized games and other activities in cooperation with co-workers.
  3. *Be familiar with rules and regulations for all games and sports activities implemented for youth.
  4. Provide snacks to the youth.
  5. *Inspect equipment and facilities daily to ensure that all materials and equipment are in safe working condition.
  6. *Reinforce proper social skills with children and/or teenagers.
  7. *Maintain responsibility for all required paperwork; timecards, sign-in sheets, requisitions, announcements and permission slips. Documents must be properly prepared and turned in on time.
  8. *Must demonstrate common sense with disciplinary action of youth and adhere to all rules and agency policies.
  9. Supervise and provide basic training for activity aides and junior helpers.
  10. May meet with community individuals and groups to generate interest, support, and ideas for programs using creative and innovative promotional ideas and materials.
  11. *Must perform job duties in a safe manner, reporting and assisting in correcting potentially unsafe conditions and able to use necessary equipment and materials properly.
  12. Report to on all areas of the Recreation Center to the Recreation Director.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

  7. Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally.
  8. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  9. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

working environment and conditions

  1. This position requires working in the internal environment.
  2. This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.

EDUCATION, Experience and TRAINING

  1. Minimum of high school diploma required; some college preferred.
  2. Knowledge of City's park and recreation facilities, activities, and programs is helpful.
  3. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  5. A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
  6. Experience in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  7. Ability to handle a high volume of incoming calls while maintaining proper phone etiquette and a high level of professionalism at all times.
  8. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
