The Mechanic is responsible for the preventative maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of various crane equipment including mobile cranes (All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Hydraulic Truck & Crawler Cranes, etc.), Tractors, Trailers, and other various equipment at the company shop or in the field/jobsites. The Mechanic must have experience with Electrical and Hydraulic Systems, Steering, Suspension, and Pinning Boom Systems (heavy equipment, semi-truck & trailers, and cranes are preferred).


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
  • Reads and understands operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Tests mechanical, electronic, electrical, and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications
  • Prepares for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness
  • Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision
  • Maintain conformity to safety requirements and other regulations
  • Complete and maintain daily maintenance and service logs. Properly fills out working reports, hour's reports, time sheets, hour's overviews, work orders, and expense reports
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and inspections
  • Prioritize, plan, and execute projects
  • Design, weld, and fabricate products
  • Troubleshoot, repair, or replace components
  • Communicate with operators of the hours/miles for scheduled maintenance, as well as repairs needed
  • Manage and maintain assigned tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly shop
  • Order parts as needed for the projects
  • Complete and turn in work orders and cost materials estimates for every project
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate using the English Language
  • Understands Air Brake Systems
  • Understands Brake Stroke Measurements
  • Understands & Possesses Basic Diesel Computer Knowledge & Skills
  • Understands Basic Troubleshooting of Electric Schematics
  • Understands Basic HVAC Systems
  • Understands Basic Fuel Systems
  • Understands Basic Exhaust Systems, EGR & SCR
  • Understands Basic Lighting/Electrical Systems
  • Understands Coolant System Troubleshooting & Leak Testing
  • Must be able to work all shifts and any weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on company or customer needs


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician that can operate, inspect, and diagnose defects.
  • Specific training in Crane Maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Experiences and working knowledge with MS office including Outlook and Excel preferred.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License, CDL-Class A Preferred.
  • Clean MVR Report


Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor work environment. Subject to standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting or pushing of objects up to 50 pounds at times.
  • May occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme noise, and physical harm in areas requiring hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible instruction.
  • Must be able to travel to service and repair cranes and similar heavy equipment.
