Swim Coach

Shalom Austin is the hub of Jewish life in Central Texas. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization comprised of the Jewish Community Center (JCC), Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Service (JFS), and the Jewish Foundation. The majority of our programming operates on 40 beautiful acres on the Dell Jewish Community Campus in the live music capital of the world – “weird” Austin, Texas. We are a passionate group of more than 100 staff working on our mission of enhancing the quality of Jewish life in the greater Austin area and around the world through philanthropy, education, social service, culture, spirituality and total wellness.

As an Assistant Swim Coach for the Piranhas Swim Team, you will be part swim team that is ready to make the most of 2022 and open a brand-new community waterpark in central Austin. At Shalom Austin, we positively impact people’s lives by offering quality swim programs to people of all ages. We achieve this by getting to know our swimmers and their families, helping them to develop their swimming skills at their pace by establishing achievable goals, and ensuring safety is our priority. Through your comment to excellence, our youth swim team will have fun, learn life-long skills, and make new friends. This is a seasonal position beginning April 21st. What you will be doing:

• Teach proper competitive swimming techniques and provides competitive swimming instruction to swim team members
• Organizes and conducts team workouts
• Works effectively with other coaches as assigned
• Maintain required certifications (listed below)
• Coach with enthusiasm, warmth and professionalism
• Effectively communicates with participants about goals and progress, as well as parents regarding their child’s progress
• Provide exceptional customer service in all interactions with participants, parents, and members
• Notify Aquatics Program Coordinator when repairs or supplies are needed
• Assists in getting swimmers signed up for swim meets both for individual and relay swims.
• Helps at swim meets to ensure swimmers are warmed-up, organized and to the ready bench on time.
• Effectively communicate with Aquatics Program Coordinator related to potential risks at the pool
• Assist in the setup and breakdown on home swim meets, as requested.
• Proactively communicate with members regarding space designated for class
• Assist Lifeguards in maintaining a safe environment for all patrons
• Complete Incident Reports as needed
• Comply with all written Shalom Austin policies and procedures.
• Arrive to on time, as scheduled.
• Other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• USA Swimming Foundations of Coaching 101 and Foundations of Coaching 201
• USA Swimming Rules and Regulations for Coaches.
• USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training Requirement
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified w/ Safety Training for Swim Coaches (or valid Lifeguard certification)
• All certifications must be current and in good standing with USA Swimming local LSC registration chair.
• Possess excellent knowledge of the technical and training aspects of competitive swimming with proven record of excellent swimmer progression
• Positive attitude and self-motivated.
• Strong skills in time management, adaptability, attention to detail, and problem solving.
• Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to take initiative and works well collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to effectively address multiple tasks at the same time and ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds required
• Effective, clear and concise communication.
• Pass all required criminal history background checks (which may, depending on the position you are hired for, include an FBI fingerprint check)
• Adhere to our Mission, Core Values, and all HR policies and procedures
• Work outdoors in all types of weather and/or inclement conditions, and at times in confined spaces.
• May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
