Job description

SUMMARY: The Masters swimming coach is responsible for running the daily operations of the Masters swim program and will report directly to the Recreation Coordinator, Aquatics. The position requires that the Masters coach coordinate and supervise assistant coaches, daily workouts, team travel to swim meets and open water events, along with other activities and functions. The Masters coach will drive Aquatics Program growth and strive to retain existing members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following;

  • Assist Coordinator with registering swimmers with USMS
  • Assist Coordinator with hiring and supervision of assistant coaches
  • Attend scheduled meetings with aquatic facility staff
  • Assist Coordinator with making travel arrangements for the program
  • Serve as contact for USMS and attend Pacific LMSC meetings as necessary
  • Assist Coordinator with maintaining up to date information on “Club Finder”, the usms.org website
  • Assist Coordinator in hosting USMS sanctioned swim meets and open water and fitness events
  • Host swim clinics and other educational opportunities for members
  • Assist Coordinator to identify, recruit, and develop sponsorships
  • Involve the Masters program in community service opportunities such as the USMS sponsored Adult learn-to-swim initiative
  • Organize a support team consisting of members and volunteers
  • Set goals for the program
  • Assist Coordinator in creating a developmental youth and adult swimming program
  • Develop a seasonal plan
  • Help each swimmer set individual goals
  • Write workouts in collaboration with the Coordinator and other coaching staff
  • Coach workouts
  • Post workouts on site
  • Assist Coordinator with scheduling assistant coaches
  • Offer stroke development clinics with video filming options
  • Travel to events
  • Attend continuing education offerings for swimming coaches
  • Respond to member comments, questions, and requests in a timely fashion
  • Work with Supervisor as needed on program planning, budgeting, event planning, marketing, and communications
  • Provide weekly updates to staff
  • Set-up and put away all equipment as needed for training sessions
  • Other related duties as assigned

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid/CPR/AED-MUST POSSESS AT TIME OF HIRE.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Principles and practices of effective swimming techniques, goals, and objectives
  • Relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Principles and practices for providing high level customer service
  • Standard safety practices

ABILITY TO:

  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of others
  • Establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with coworkers and participants
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a broad range of individuals
  • Demonstrate swimming and safety techniques
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 21 years of age

Professional swim coaching experience with Masters, high school, club, or college. (Minimum three (3) years)

Personal competitive or fitness swimming experience.

Extensive knowledge of swimming techniques and training methods

High School Diploma or equivalent
