Essential Duties:

  • Maintain constant, attentive surveillance of all swimmers during the youth triathlon team practice.
  • Use effective scanning techniques to monitor lanes, walls, and pool activity.
  • Identify and respond immediately to any signs of distress, fatigue, or unsafe behavior.
  • Perform water rescues, first aid, CPR, and utilize an AED when needed.
  • Activate and follow the Triathlon Teams Emergency Action Plan (EAP) during incidents.
  • Coordinate with coaching staff to ensure a safe training environment.
  • Enforce all pool safety rules, lane etiquette, and facility policies.
  • Monitor deck conditions and remove or report hazards such as wet floors or misplaced equipment.
  • Ensure training equipment (kickboards, buoys, lane lines) is used safely and does not obstruct swimmers.
  • Communicate safety concerns or behavioral issues to coaches promptly.
  • Maintain professional vigilance without engaging in coaching or instruction.
  • Stay rescueready at all times, with proper positioning and equipment in hand.
  • Maintain all required certifications (Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid).
  • Complete accurate and timely incident or accident reports.
  • Conduct prepractice safety checks of the pool and deck area.
  • Ensure equipment is stored properly postpractice and report any maintenance needs to coaches.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18 years and older. 
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and First Aid, CPR & AED Certification required.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills along with the ability to work with individuals of all ages.
  •  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain good physical condition and maintain professional skills of alertness, responsible, good judgment, cleanliness, endurance, and ability to work with all ages.

JCPRD requires reference/background screening for all positions.  Specified criteria may vary by Department.
