Reports to: Aquatics Manager/Head Coach
Job Description
Summary/objective
The Swim Coach conducts practices for acac members and guests as part of acac's Dolphin Club Program (or Summer League Swim Team programs) following the head coach's guidelines. The Swim Coach works with children of different ages and ability levels so that they progress effectively to higher levels of swimming
Essential functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Maintain vigilance while conducting practice in order to maintain constant control of the group and emphasize safety at all times
  • Conduct effective and progressive swim practices
  • Arrive to work at least 5 minutes before prior to start of practice
  • Be visible on the pool deck and accessible to answer swim team related questions
  • Have equipment ready before practice and clean up after
  • Greet participants as they arrive
  • Follow head coach guidelines as assigned for each practice
  • Communicate with participants and/or parents regarding progress
  • If unable to work, proactively seek substitutes for your shift and immediately inform supervisor of the substitution
  • Responsible for ensuring assigned practices are covered prior to taking leave
  • Be in proper Coach/Instructor uniform (bathing suit) at all times while at work and always present the acac brand and standard anytime and anywhere the acac uniform is worn
  • Be knowledgeable of acac aquatic polices and be able to effectively communicate these to members and guests
  • Be prepared to enforce acac aquatic policies if unsafe situations arise
  • Ensure ongoing familiarity with acac programs to manage questions and communicate knowledgeably to acac members and guests

Requirements
Physical demands
  • Must be able to successfully instruct and demonstrate proper swim techniques
  • Must be able to actively participate in practice
  • Must be able to swim in both deep and shallow water
  • Must be able to work in an often warm and humid environment with heightened noise
  • Must be able to work in both warm water and cool water pools
  • Must be able to swim confidently with other participants in the pool

Required competencies, education, and experience
  • High School diploma preferred
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches (STSC) Required
  • Current or expired Red Cross WSI certification preferred
  • Prior teaching and/or coaching experience may be substituted in lieu of certification
  • Superior customer service skills; ability to work with both children and adults
  • Ability to work varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to successfully demonstrate proper swim techniques and use of swim equipment
  • Ability to be creative in finding the best teaching methods to accommodate different populations
  • Must be at least 18 years old
