Farm Maintenance Technician
As a vertical hydroponic farm on Detroit's East Side, we are committed to providing high quality, sustainable, healthy food to our community. Responsibilities:
- Respond to management and department leads maintenance requests, document and perform maintenance tasks
- Diagnose and troubleshoot basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other building issues
- Keep all eyewash stations, hand wash stations, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and other safety equipment functional, up to date and documented
- Routine Safety analysis and documentation updates, keep farm staff trained and up to date on all safety requirements.
- Document and maintain preventative maintenance logs as required by NFPA, OSHA, and local and federal authorities having jurisdiction
- First responder for Grow Area systems/equipment, not limited to Fire Suppression Systems, HVAC, Electrical Distribution, Emergency Generator, and Plumbing systems, networking, and general facility maintenance, responding to emergencies whether remotely or on-site.
- Make repair appointments with electricians, plumbers, hvac specialists, repair technicians and mechanics when needed

- Complete inventory on repaired equipment, tools and stock supplies
- Organize and maintain facilities grounds, loading bay, gates, waste bins and vehicle areas, take out trashes, sweep lots etc
- Conduct general maintenance tasks such as painting, floor/wall/door repair, hanging signs and routine maintenance on facility grounds, operational equipment and safety equipment with assistance as needed by general contractors
- Support extensive walking, climbing stairs and ladders, occasional lifting etc. depending on work requirements
- Knowledge of NEC, OSHA, NFPA, DEP, DEC, HAZMAT, and SQF regulations
This position is a full time (40 hrs/wk) position, with a 1 month probationary period. The ideal applicant lives near the farm or within the city limits of Detroit, is able to stand for long periods of time, can physically lift/carry 50lbs, is knowledgeable in the use of power tools, chemical handling and safety, materials handling and safety, and has a basic understanding of plumbing and electrical systems concepts. Applicants must have access to reliable transportation.
