Job Description
Schools are being overwhelmed by a student mental health crisis

1 in 5 children in the U.S. has a mental health condition, but more than half dont get treatment. Families are waiting 3 to 6 months or longer to see a provider and thats if they even can find one who takes insurance.

Schools are on the frontlines of this crisis. Students facing mental health challenges miss 10 extra days of school per year, and up to 1 in 3 drop out in high school. Schools are struggling to meet the volume of need, recruit enough mental health professionals, and address burnout among educators and staff.

Cartwheel is a fast-growing, mission-driven health care provider tackling the student mental health crisis

At Cartwheel, we believe every student with a mental health need deserves timely, affordable, and evidence-based support. We partner directly with school districts to provide telehealth-based mental health care for students and families, plus consultations, workshops, and other mental health programming for the broader school community.

Were looking for an entrepreneurial, mission-driven Program Director to manage Cartwheel's program design and delivery in partner school districts.

The Program Director will be the primary point of contact and trusted partner to school districts working with Cartwheel. Youll work directly with school staff to coordinate Cartwheel services and build Multi-Tiered Systems of Support; with students and families to help them navigate their care with Cartwheel; and with Cartwheel's team of therapists and psychiatrists to ensure students receive excellent care.

This role might be a great fit if you have experience working in school settings as a health professional or clinician and are eager to build stronger systems of mental health support with school staff, students, and families. Ideally, you have school or district leadership experience (for example, overseeing school health teams and/or student services).

Role type: Full-time role with excellent compensation and benefits

Location: Up to 100% remote

Start date: July 2022

Program Director responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for 2-3 school districts working with Cartwheel. Develop a deep understanding of district needs and build collaborative, lasting relationships with school staff, students, and families.
  • Educate and help school staff, students, and families navigate Cartwheels services
  • Participate in regular team meetings and 1-1 consultations with school staff to collaborate on mental health needs
  • Organize virtual mental health trainings and workshops for the school community
  • Gather regular feedback from school district partners, and help design and improve Cartwheels approach to working with students, families, and schools
  • Recruit new members of Cartwheels care team, including future Program Directors and Managers who will work with additional districts as the company grows
  • Depending on training and licensure, provide 10-15 hours per week of mental health services. These may include non-clinical support (leading a support group, offering 1-1 coaching) or clinical services (mental health assessments and teletherapy).

Requirements

Must have

  • Passion for working with schools on mental health
  • Masters or Doctorate in psychology, counseling, education, social work, or related
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a school-based setting. For example, you may be a former school counselor, school psychologist, special education teacher, or school social worker.
  • Excellent organization, communication, relationship-building, and teamwork skills

  • Willingness to work evenings occasionally during the year (e.g., for a parent workshop)
  • Willingness to visit schools and meet with staff in-person occasionally during the year
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts school systems and local and state mental health resources
  • Optional: Massachusetts clinical license such as clinical psychologist (PsyD/PhD), LICSW, LCSW, LMFT, or LMHC

Benefits

  • $80,000-$110,000 cash compensation depending on qualifications
  • Meaningful equity ownership stake in Cartwheel Care
  • Ability to work up to 100% remotely
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Home office and technology budget
  • Team-based work environment with mission-driven colleagues
