Job Description

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with developing designs for HVAC and piping systems, systems that contain or previously handled radioactive material, 
  • Field and Construction Engineering is a plus
  • Experience with remote handling equipment (e.g., gloveboxes, fume hoods, etc.) safe removal designs are strongly desired,
  • Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance (e.g. active DOE ‘Q’ or ability to obtain one)
  • Able to obtain qualifications required to access Hazardous/Radiological Waste Sites:
    1. 24 Hazardous Waste Worker Training,
    2. Rad Worker 2,
    3. Respirator Training,
  • Registered Professional Engineer,
  • Project engineering experience in support of a nuclear or Department of Energy facility.
  • Direct experience with the use of AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, AutoPipe, MathCAD, etc.

Position Description

In this position as a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical engineering expertise to projects assigned by Engineering Management, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and be a part of design team focused on mission responsibilities such as:

  • Supporting design calculations, specifications, design drawing development, and required reports,
  • Enabling decisions that affect organizational milestones,
  • Frequently visit site of project(s), propose solutions and alternatives requiring engineering expertise, 
  • Using technical knowledge, work towards the reduction of the cost and improvement of processes where possible and incorporate new ideas resulting from engineering/scientific progress in the field,
  • As needed, serve as Design Authority for systems and activities associated with assigned project work,
    1. Attend walkdowns of planned work with assigned work planning team(s)
    2. Ensure assigned design activities satisfy Nuclear, Radiological, environmental, Health and Safety requirements, and
    3. Facility modification packages
  • Apply mechanical engineering expertise to structures, systems, and components,
  • Providing oversight of mechanical scope of project remediation design,
  • Ensuring mechanical/HVAC designs meet regulatory, code, and safety basis requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or related field or Professional Engineering (PE) License, plus a minimum of 10 years related engineering experience (or advanced degree with minimum 6 years of related engineering experience),
  • US Citizen,
  • Nuclear facility experience preferred (operations and/or remediation),
  • Employees are required to attest to and provide verification that they are fully vaccinated,
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
