Salary: $95,000.00 - $101,825.38

The Chief Operating Officer at ANEW will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence,
strategic planning, and organizational efficiency across the organization. Additionally, the COO will
manage leaders within the organization and guide strategic decisions regarding Finance, Human
Resources, IT, Facilities, and Grant Writing/Reporting. If you are a seasoned leader with a passion for

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operational Strategy and Planning:
o Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
o Work closely with the executive team to contribute to the development and execution of the overall
organizational strategy.


• Financial Management:
o Supervise Director of Finance for the functions of: financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
processes.
o Collaborate with the finance team to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational
goals.
o Monitor financial performance and implement cost-effective measures to maximize resources.


• Human Resources Management
o Support the human resource function, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management,
and professional development.
o Ensure compliance with employment laws and collaborate with Human Resource Manager to
maintain a positive organizational culture.


• Administrative Operations

o Streamline and optimize administrative processes to enhance organizational efficiency.
o Oversee facilities management, IT infrastructure, and other administrative functions to support dayto-
day operations.


• Risk Management and Compliance
o Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate organizational risks.
o Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.


• Technology Integration
o Evaluate and implement technology solutions to improve organizational efficiency.
o Oversee the development and maintenance of IT systems to support organizational needs.


• Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity:
o Develop and implement plans for emergency preparedness and business continuity.
o Ensure the organization's ability to respond effectively to unforeseen challenges.
o Develop and implement risk management strategies to safeguard the organization's assets and reputation/

 

• Grant Oversight/Management
o Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for grant acquisition, management, and reporting to support organizational objectives.
o Research, identify, and pursue funding opportunities from various sources including government agencies, foundations, and private donors.
o Manage Grant Writer/Manager and provide oversight into funding and grant strategy.
o Manage the full lifecycle of grants, from proposal development and submission to monitoring, compliance, and reporting.
o Collaborate with programmatic and finance teams to ensure alignment of grant activities with organizational goals and budgetary constraints.
o Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports, including financial reports, narrative progress reports, and impact assessments.
o Conduct regular assessments of grant performance and outcomes, identifying successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
o Stay abreast of changes in grant regulations, policies, and procedures, and ensure adherence to relevant compliance standards.
o Provide guidance and support to staff involved in grant-related activities, including proposal writing, budget development, and reporting.

 

Facilities Management
o Develop and implement strategic plans for facility operations to optimize space utilization and cost-effectiveness.
o Monitor facility budgets, expenses, and vendor contracts, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
o Coordinate with departments to assess current and future facility needs and prioritize projects accordingly.
o Implement and maintain emergency preparedness and business continuity plans for facilities.
o Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations within facilities.
o Oversee the planning and execution of renovations, expansions, or relocations as needed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and other leadership team members to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan.
• Provide insights and recommendations on operational enhancements to achieve organizational goals.
• Lead and manage the execution of key initiatives in alignment with the organization's mission and vision.
• Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to streamline processes and enhance overall effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance organizational efficiency.
• Work closely with the Director of Finance to develop and manage the organization's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
• Monitor financial performance, analyze trends, and provide strategic recommendations for financial sustainability.
• Collaborate with fundraising teams to support revenue generation efforts.
• Build and lead a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
• Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders to support organizational objectives.
• Assess and mitigate operational risks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

MINIMUM / REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven experience as a senior leader in a non-profit organization, with a minimum of 7 years in a COO or equivalent role.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing annual budgets of $5 million or more.
• Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to the organization's mission and values.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Background screening through Washington State Patrol
• Ability to work flexible schedule to include evening and or weekend
• Proof of citizenship or other authorization for employment
• Continuation of employment is contingent upon successfully performing work described
• Continuation of this position is dependent on achievement of performance goals and availability of funding

WORK LOCATION: ANEW Tukwila Training Center and Satellite locations as assigned
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday
REPORTS TO: Executive Director

COMPENSATION
This position is paid an exempt position with a starting salary range of $95,000.00 - $101,825.38 per year. This position is grant funded and continuation of this position is subject to continuation of funding. The starting salary is based on education and experience as per the below matrix.

Years’ experience must be directly related to this position.
This position is an exempt position. The person in this position is expected to serve a 90-day probation
period. Benefits will not be included until and unless the position is made permanent, which is contingent upon performance evaluation, funding, board direction, and potential re-development of the organization and its training/service delivery models. If the position is more than 30/hours per week, employer paid medical benefits will include medical, dental, and vision benefits.
A portion of the medical premium is made by the employee through a pre-tax contribution at time of payroll posting. Employees at 30/hours week or greater qualify for full benefits and pay a pre-tax contribution of $80 per month. Employees at 20/hours per week pay 25% of their benefits. Employees who work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for paid benefits. Additional employer paid benefits include: basic life insurance, vacation, sick leave, holiday pay and taxes as required by law.
