Sr. Statutory Accountant

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented senior accountant to join our growing organization. In this position, you will handle accounting operations within the company and verify financial records and transactions. You must have a keen attention to detail and maintain account balances, financial statements, and general ledger. You will also be responsible for daily transactional volume and monthly closings as well as keeping up to date on the accounting standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete monthly financial close process for a commercial insurer
• Prepare standard and complex monthly journal entries related to investment, reinsurance and loss journal entries
• Prepare and review intercompany and elimination entries
• Ensures assigned month-end close procedures are completed efficiently and timely (i.e., accruals, bank account and balance sheet reconciliations)
• Review financial statements for variances and provide explanations
• Ensure internal control compliance as mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley
• Prepare assigned audit work papers
• Assist with research and documentation of technical accounting matters
• Special projects and other ad hoc duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Detail and deadline oriented, committed to professionalism
• In-depth understanding of GAAP and STAT accounting
• Team oriented, proactive approach to all situations
• Proficient research and communication skills
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Commercial insurance accounting experience preferred

EDUCATION /TRAINING:

• Bachelor of Arts/Science in Accounting required
• 4+ years relevant work experience of which 2 years are at a senior accountant level
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis in Excel and Access
• Great Plains Dynamics/Management Reporter experience preferred
