Job description

About the job:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our finance and accounting team as an Insurance Accounting Manager. In this position, you will lead the accounting function for our insurance operations on both a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) basis and manage and ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting, excellent leadership and time management skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the insurance accounting process on both a GAAP and SAP basis

  • Research, interpret, and apply GAAP and SAP to complex insurance accounting transactions and issues

  • Lead the process and collaborate with internal teams to generate the information necessary for all GAAP and statutory insurance reporting schedules

  • Lead the audit of the statutory financial statements, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders

  • Ensure compliance with all NAIC and state department of insurance regulatory reporting requirements

  • Stay current on emerging insurance accounting standards and regulatory guidelines

  • Participate in special projects as needed to support the broader goals of the finance and accounting department

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA certification

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in insurance accounting (both GAAP and SAP) and regulatory reporting and compliance

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and SAP insurance accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements

  • Experience with insurance financial reporting software (e.g., SOVOS, Sapiens)

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments

  • Leadership experience, including supervising and developing staff members
