Reliability Engineer

Job Description

This position will support Reliability Engineering functions on Aerospace and Military Programs. Acts as Reliability representative for multiple programs. Performs reliability analyses such as reliability predictions, FMEA/FMECA, Worst Case Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Reliability Assessments. Assures part compliance to customer requirements. Drives Root Cause investigation and Corrective Action implementation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews program electronics parts and material selection requirements to establish suitability based on customer requirements, mission life, and product environment.
  • Reviews screening, qualification, and prohibited materials testing data for procured parts to verify conformance to Source Control Document, Military/Industry Standard, and Customer Requirements
  • Creates component up screening test procedures and makes recommendations for changes in the selection and application of electrical components or materials. Track and document Qualification testing, review testing data, and provide final disposition on qualified hardware. Generate Scopes of Work for outside testing.
  • Create Nonstandard Part Approval Requests (NSPARS) and Nonstandard Material Part Approval Requests (NSMARS) for nonstandard parts, materials and processes for customer approval. Approve internal part substitution requests.
  • Responsible for guiding efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of products, equipment, processes, controls, and safety/security systems are adequate.
  • As a member of the program team, participates in the design and analysis of new products, product modifications and legacy products.
  • Develops engineering solutions to prevent repetitive failures and other problems that affect products including capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for data review and analysis including statistical process control, reliability modeling and predictions, MTBF, trend analysis, fault tree analysis, root cause analysis, and root cause failure analysis.
  • Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs) including writing detailed technical papers, malfunction reports, troubleshooting steps, stress analyses and root cause/corrective action for the Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS). Maintains the FRACAS database and drives corrective actions.
  • Interfaces with vendors and subcontractors to drive root cause investigation and corrective action at remote location or on-site as needed.
  • Serve on Material Review Board (MRB) for non-conforming materials, assemblies, or procured items prior to acceptance testing or system integration.
  • Design, Implement, and provide Lessons Learned Training resulting from Root Cause Investigations to team members.
  • Review project contracts, statement of work, specifications, and related requirements to identify and make provisions for quality, reliability, and product realization.
  • Works closely with the PMO and Manufacturing on Performance, Cost and Schedule impacts for nonconformances and corrective actions.
  • Generate new documents and proposed revisions for use in High Reliability and Space Flight programs. Review documents for compliance with Military and Industry Standards and impact to system Reliability.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Periodic travel to support material procurement and test.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent, at least.

EXPERIENCE: 

2 plus years’ experience in Space, Aerospace or Military Reliability Engineering.

Prefer candidate with experience in EEE part selection and qualification for military and space applications.

Familiarity with radiation survivability analysis a plus.

Candidate will be familiar with implementing and using closed loop failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action programs.

OTHER:  

Demonstrate effective communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, analytical, and organization skills.

Self-Motivated. Ability to multi-task.

Good time management skills.

Works well/accurate under pressure independently and as part of a team.
