Job Function:

We need you to join our team to assist all other team members with completing the tasks related to operating the World’s Largest Underground Business Complex! You will be responsible for working with other team members and assisting them in their duties. You will be supporting electricians, plumbers, mechanics, leadmen, HVAC technicians, freezer/cold storage technicians, structural (rock) maintenance, painters and sweepers/cleaning team members with projects, individual job assignments, and any other duties as assigned. Facilities team members sometimes specialize their work but this position will support everyone and all areas of responsibility. You will learn a significant amount in this position. Reports directly to the Manager of Facilities but takes direction from the designated Leadman. You will be working for a family-owned organization with a significant local and national presence, with the resources to perform the job and long-term goal of growing the business. Most staff work for the Company for decades; many retire with us. Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Under supervision from the Manager of Facilities and under direction of the designated leadman, performs duties as assigned to support the needs of the SubTropolis Facilities department on the day shift (7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday).
  • Performs all assigned tasks supporting assignments and daily/weekly reoccurring work routines in an organized, efficient manner. All team members share all duties as needed.
  • Possesses basic building trades knowledge.
  • Operate larger equipment in accordance to the needs of industrial property management (sweepers, scrubbers, power equipment, power tools, etc.).
  • General property management and maintenance functions (waste removal, recycling, exterior maintenance, snow removal, contractor and vendor interaction, assembling material orders, etc.).
  • Take direction from leadmen in relation to more specialized tasks (e.g. HVAC, plumbing, electrical duties).
  • Participates as needed with the rest of the team in underground structural (rock) work orders as well as mine development duties. Overtime is not guaranteed but frequently available.
  • Ability to represent the Company professionally, at all times, regarding grooming, appearance and verbal skills. Possesses a can-do, hard-working self-starting attitude.
  • Possesses fundamental maintenance-related skills, is a fast learner, and can follow verbal and written directions.
  • Prioritizes work in an appropriate manner for the needs of each particular shift.
  • Comfortable working in a very large commercial and industrial underground business environment.
  • Duties are not limited to those described above. Others may be assigned by leadmen.


Key Skills:

  • Understanding of the basics of facilities maintenance, or has a willingness to learn and approaches coaching and instruction with a welcoming, helpful attitude.
  • Willingness to learn skills they may not already possess.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with tenants, staff, contractors and other employees.
  • Always puts safety first. Has a fast work pace but it constantly aware of his or her surroundings and works smartly and safely.
  • Ability to work long periods independently, but as part of a distributed team.
  • Embraces new methods, processes and technology. Daily learning opportunities are important to this applicant.
  • A prior work history is required but we will train the right applicant who has a positive outlook, helpful attitude, and desires to learn and grow with the company.
  • Ability to carry out both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via Microsoft Outlook (email) with Leadmen, management and other team members on the same and separate shifts.

Degree and Licenses:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Not required, but formal education beyond high school is beneficial to all applicants.
  • Valid Driver's License


Other:

  • Ability to meet deadlines. Excellent time management.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations calmly and efficiently.
  • All facilities team members must join the Heavy Laborer’s Union 663 representing our maintenance crew 6 weeks after hire.
  • Ability to pass a physical, background check and drug screen.

  • Various personnel lifts, forklifts, loaders and powered tools

Working Conditions & Environmental Factors:

  • Exposure to heat or cold (-10F to 115F).
  • Potentially dark and dusty work environment at times.
  • Exposure to noise from very loud to silent.
  • Working in an underground environment.
  • Potentially on-call as needed according to on-call structure.

7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
40 hours/week
