Job Description

 

Summary: Provides day-to-day medical and clerical assistance to the physicians and nursing department of Stockton Cardiology Medical Group. Including, but not limited to assisting with patient care, monitoring physician schedules, preparing charts for clinic, completing forms/requisitions, relaying information to patient/families.

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of medical assistant practices and procedures, medical terminology, general medical equipment and computer/office equipment.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, time management skills, including coordinating multiple tasks and working under pressure, and the ability to prioritize activities related to assigned duties.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with patients and co-workers, often in stressful situations and possess excellent listening and interpretive skills.
  • Must be flexible, dependable, and cooperative.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follows all responsibilities required in the policies and procedures manual.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of policies, procedures and priorities, seeks clarification as needed. Attend meetings, training, and in-services as directed. Continually expands job related knowledge and skills. Assists with the training of new employees as needed.
  • Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, which contribute to the overall operation of Stockton Cardiology Medical Group.

Clinic Responsibilities:

Follow guidelines per physician as they differ. Below are general guidelines

  • Maintain and consistently monitor physician schedule.
  • Continually scrutinize patient flow, communicating all changes to MD
  • Prepare charts for patient visit including obtaining all tests results, hospital records, and consultation letters.
  • Prepare rooms with appropriate and adequate supplies and equipment for examination.
  • Escort patient to exam room.
  • Take and record vital signs.
  • Accurately complete medication record and gather necessary information requested by physician/nurse practitioner.
  • Perform EKGs when requested.
  • Patient calls must be checked regularly and callbacks made within 48 hours. If further information is needed to respond to the call, the patient will be called back and notified that the office is working on their request and a f/u communication date will be given to the patient.
  • Refers patient problems to the appropriate nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician.
  • Handle all patient calls with respect and confidentiality, promoting and acknowledging patient’s rights.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma / GED
  • Graduate of medical assistance program
  • Typing, word processing, understanding of computer
  • Understanding of GEMMS EMR

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform a moderate assist transfer independently with coworker.
  • Prolonged sitting / standing for over 2 hours at times.
