Job Description

Position Summary:

Associates in the Quality Assurance Engineer position are responsible for Auditing and Reporting on the Production Quality Control Process to assure to PPC Management and its Customers that quality flexible packaging materials are produced on time in accordance with specific work instructions and applicable safety and quality assurance procedures to maintain the quality and consistency of products. The Quality Engineer is responsible for investigating and analyzing quality problems, recommending solutions and ensuring corrections are made through the CAPA process. The Quality Engineer also provides field service support for customers as well as participates in product development and trial activities. In the event of absence, these job responsibilities will be covered by the employee in the “Quality Assurance Leader” position.

Responsibilities and Duties:

This job description and performance standard document has been prepared as a guide to ensure better communication and understanding. Your Supervisor/Manager may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this description. Likewise, this description will be revised when required to meet current business needs.

  • Enter Customer Returns, Internal Rejections, rework and other quality data into ERP system as required.
  • Inspects, identifies, root causes and documents non-conforming material in the Quality Management module. Provides evidence of the defect (sample, photo or video), quantity, job number and operator number(s), supplier tags, etc. for evaluation and to initiate Corrective Action Responses (CARs).
  • Conducts as well as assists QA Technicians with laboratory tests (film COF, retained solvents with GC, lamination bond, heat seal testing, UPC scanning and other tests as needed.)
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment, machinery, and lab equipment as needed.
  • Perform all Special projects, such as research, data collection, analysis, testing and documentation, as well as customer support including field service on-site support at customer facilities as well as internal support for trial process.
  • Ensure regular attendance to prevent excessive delays in completing the above tasks.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company procedures and meet quality standards in place. Participate in quality programs and stay updated on changes and standards within the systems.
  • As a support role to the production centers that moves freely between departments, this position is expected to maintain a steady and urgent pace to positively impact and inspire the pace of the Associates in the plant.
  • Generate improvement ideas and embraces improvement projects to better the business.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree, preferably in a Science, Technical or Engineering field.
  • Able to follow directions, work with little or no supervision, good math skills, ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, and test equipment, and possess good people skills.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Computer literate with good organizational skills
  • Detail-orientation required for auditing completion of required paperwork and information system’s inputs with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Able to read and understand work instructions and accept verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and assigned tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of our product and processes. Previous experience in quality assurance of printed webs and/or bag making is highly preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required, and proven experience with effective teams and continuous improvement methods strongly preferred.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must travel as required; overnight travel may be required.
  • Able to stand on feet for most of the shift, work with the processes on the plant floor, and work flexible hours as needed to administer the Quality programs across all shifts.
  • Able to tell differences in printed colors and compare to color standards for quality control audits.
