Overview:

St. Rose, LA: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Product Development Designer.  The Designer produces engineering deliverables and other technical documentation in accordance with regulatory and statutory requirements, as well as customer specifications and organizational standards.  These tasks will be performed to support all phases of design development (e.g., Concept, Contract, and Functional design phases).

 

Essential Duties:

·       Preparing accurate and detailed concept designs, free form surface models and/or drawings based on concept sketches, photographs, or clearly stated functional requirements or appearances.

·       Develop contract design drawings in accordance with customer requirements to support Bid & Proposal activities.

·       Write and review system/equipment specifications, perform systems/equipment and vendor evaluations.

·       Create, revise, and/or review functional deliverables and ensure compliance with applicable customer, regulatory and classification requirements.

·       Interact with Business Development team, Project Manager, Production personnel, Material procurement, and Quality personnel in support of project requirements and Production schedules.

·       Develop accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) to support the procurement process.

·       Ability to work with Customer, Business Development team and Design Agents in developing build and/or performance specification and address questions and concerns.

·       Mentor other staff members as needed.

·       Check engineering deliverables for compliance with requirements and specifications to ensure correctness of technical content.

Requirements/Skills:

·       High School Diploma is required.

·       Minimum 5 years of Marine Design experience is required.

·       Shipyard experience with new-build vessel construction, upgrades, conversations, or repairs.

·       Efficient in utilizing current releases of AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Rhino/Flamingo

·       Competency with Microsoft Office Tools and Software.

·       Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess a solution-oriented mindset.

·       Experience translating specification requirements and incorporating standards, requirements, design practices and techniques into functional ship design, drawings and other finished design products.

·       Familiarization with federal regulations (USCG), international rules (IMO) and classification society rules (ABS).

·       Must have a comprehensive understanding of the software, the data, the machines, the processes, and the Production personnel roles within the shipbuilding process.

·       Broad based knowledge of Production processes, modular construction, and regulatory requirements within the scope of ship production.

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.

·       Manual dexterity and visual acuity for detailed design work.

·       Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment as needed, up to 25 pounds.

·       Flexibility to move around the workspace and shipyard environment as required for project coordination and inspection tasks.

·       Stamina to work in varying environmental conditions, including office settings and potentially outdoor shipyard environments.

·       Agility and balance for navigating ship structures during inspections or project oversight.

·       Clear communication skills for interacting with team members and stakeholders in person and via electronic communication methods.
