We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer at NovaSource Power Services. We are an independent Solar Operations and Maintenance provider currently servicing more than 20 GW of solar assets worldwide. NovaSource Power Services strives to be the number one O&M provider within its key target markets, and have 30% of its revenue from value-added services, of which engineering will play a key role. This role will report to the Senior SCADA Manager and will be based in the Control Room and responsible for providing SCADA Engineering expertise to the global fleet with a focus on Control Room Operator’s needs.

Currently, the engineering team provides three main functions for the business:

  1. Continuous SCADA support for all global assets with focus on Control Room
  2. Executes value added service projects such as SCADA designs or upgrades
  3. Builds and maintains critical infrastructure to support and monitor global assets


Responsibilities:

  • Respond to daily requests for scada engineering support for the global fleet of power plants with focus on the Control Room needs.

Examples:

    • Conducting root cause analysis on scada application issues. Examples include:
      • Data/network communication failures
      • HMI graphic issues
      • Alarming issues
      • Application performance issues
      • Data anomaly issues
      • Grid controller PLC troubleshooting
      • Server operating system or virtualization issues
      • Managing credentials or other access controls on scada systems
    • Conducting change requests. Examples include:
      • HMI graphic changes
      • Alarming updates
      • Add or remove data points
      • Creating user accounts
  • Communicate daily with field technicians to gather information or provide recommendations on SCADA issues.
  • Communicate daily with other Engineering team members, Operators, using email, chat, or phone.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review problems, open support requests, and plan value added services.
  • 20% travel locally or internationally for site visits, team meetings, or training.

General Qualifications:

  • Accomplished user of Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools: Outlook, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint
  • Accomplished user of IGNITION software
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written format in English
  • Must be able to prioritize day to day work
  • High attention to detail. Minimal mistakes in SCADA application configurations
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills
  • Microsoft Visio experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of solar plant controllers, capacitor banks, and solar tracking systems
  • Basic knowledge of approved cyber security practices

SCADA Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of SCADA automation design and support experience
  • Extensive experience with Ignition, Gold certified preferred
  • Experience with creating HMI graphics from single lines or P&IDs
  • Experience with ISA 18.2 alarm management standards
  • Extensive experience with Modbus and OPC-UA
  • Extensive experience with DNP3 and MQTT
  • Extensive experience with Modicon M340 PLC programming, Rockwell PLC programming.
  • Experience with SEL RTAC programming.

Work Environment:

The SCADA Engineer will work in a hybrid environment with access to all necessary software and tools provided by the company. The SCADA Engineer will have frequent communication with other team members and vendors/subcontractors through email, chat, in-person meetings, and phone calls. The office is open five days a week and employees are expected to come in a minimum of 3 days with the remaining two being remote.

Opportunity to travel locally and internationally up to 20% of their time to conduct installations, commissioning, and attend team meetings.
